We’ve all been there. It starts with a simple feature request and ends with a complete existential crisis at 3 AM. Here is the official roadmap of a dev breaking down:
1. Stage One: Overconfidence
200 OK
Everything is running perfectly on your local machine. You are a god. You start updating your resume.
2. Stage Two: Confusion
404 Not Found
You pushed to production and the CSS is gone. The images are gone. Your will to live is gone.
3. Stage Three: Denial
418 I'm a teapot
The code is so broken that the server starts returning joke error codes. You blame the internet provider, the junior dev, and the solar flares.
4. Stage Four: Defeat
500 Internal Server Error
You don't know why it broke. You don't know how to fix it. You just delete the repository and consider a career in farming.
Note: I actually put these exact developer realities onto clean minimalist typography designs for my own workspace setup wall. Since a few people asked on my last posts – the full tech apparel portfolio link is updated and live right in my Dev.to profile bio! Go grab a sticker or a shirt before your next 500 error. ☕💻
Which stage are you currently trapped in right now? Let's cry together in the comments.
