Why Watermark Removal Shouldn’t Require Seven Different Tools

Removing a watermark sounds like a single task.

In practice, it usually means opening several different tools:

  • One for visible text and logos
  • Another for AI-generated image watermarks
  • Another for image metadata
  • Another for batch processing
  • And yet another for video

That fragmented experience is what inspired me to build Clearframe — an all-in-one watermark remover.

What I wanted to simplify

The goal was not to add one more “upload and remove” page.

I wanted to bring the most common media-cleanup workflows into one consistent product, with the same upload, preview, comparison, and download experience.

Clearframe currently brings together:

  • Watermark removal from photos
  • Gemini watermark removal
  • AI image watermark cleanup
  • SynthID removal and detection
  • EXIF, XMP, C2PA, and AI metadata cleanup
  • iPhone HEIC and HEIF image support
  • Batch image processing and ZIP downloads
  • Video watermark removal

The product decisions that mattered

1. Start with the type of result users want

Most people do not want to understand the difference between every watermark format.

They usually know only what they want:

  • Remove a visible mark
  • Clean an AI-generated image
  • remove hidden image information
  • Process multiple files
  • Clean up a video

The product is organized around those outcomes instead of expecting users to understand the underlying terminology first.

2. Make the result visible before download

A small watermark can be difficult to judge when the original and result are shown separately.

I designed the examples and editor around clear before-and-after comparisons, so users can inspect the cleaned area before downloading the result.

3. Keep the workflow consistent

Switching tools should not mean learning a completely different interface.

The main flow stays familiar:

  1. Choose or drop a file
  2. Select the cleanup type
  3. Preview the result
  4. Download the cleaned file

4. Treat batch processing as a real workflow

Batch cleanup should be more than uploading the same file repeatedly.

Clearframe includes a queue for multiple images, progress states, and combined downloads so that cleaning a folder feels like one task instead of dozens of separate tasks.

Where the product is now

The first complete version is live.

New accounts receive two Photo Cleanup Credits, and returning users can receive additional cleanup credits. Monthly plans also include unlimited access to the core photo-cleanup tools.

The website is currently in English because I am initially testing it with an international audience.

What I would love feedback on

I am especially interested in these questions:

  1. Is it immediately clear which cleanup tool to choose?
  2. Does the before-and-after presentation make the result easy to judge?
  3. Are image cleanup, metadata cleanup, and AI watermark cleanup organized clearly?
  4. Which watermark workflow would you use most often?
  5. Is there an important image or video format that is still missing?

I would appreciate honest feedback on the positioning, interface, examples, and overall workflow.

Thanks for reading!

The product is currently in English because I am testing it with an international audience, but feedback from the DEV community is very welcome.

I am particularly interested in whether the different cleanup options feel like one coherent product or still feel like separate tools placed together.
