I've been building a roadmap called Hardware Atlas. It's loosely inspired by awesome-electronics, but it follows the AICTE ECE syllabus closely, so it lines up with what many of us are studying anyway.
It's split into Level 00 to Level 13. It starts with basic circuits and works up through embedded systems, PCB design, FPGA/RTL, computer architecture, ASIC design and semiconductor fundamentals.
The lessons
There are 31 hands-on build lessons so far. Each one follows the same pattern:
what to get -> what to build -> what to measure -> what will probably break
The idea is simple: do the math, build it, measure it, then compare the two. 31 projects in one pile is a lot to dig through, so I grouped them into domains and you can jump in wherever you are.
Opportunities
Most roadmaps stop once you've learned the thing. I wanted to add what comes next, so there's an Opportunities section covering:
- Embedded security competitions
- VLSI / FPGA hackathons
- Open-source hardware programs
- GSoC / fellowships
- Research and paper venues
- Hardware competitions
- Internships and other openings
Each one is tied back to the domains that prepare you for it. I didn't want a giant list of 500 links where you can't tell whether you're even qualified for any of them.
India-specific stuff
A lot of hardware advice online assumes you can order a $200 dev board and have it show up tomorrow. That's not how it works here, and finding decent Indian stores is hard. So I wrote India.md based on my own and my friends' experience buying parts. There's also Gate.md with GATE resources and books more in a broader prospectus but it does help.
Contributions are open
I see this as a community resource, not a finished thing. I'm still a junior myself and don't claim to be an expert. Right now it leans heavily toward IoT and embedded, and VLSI/silicon are the directions I'm growing into. Here's how to contribute.
PRs are welcome for:
- A useful hardware resource
- A build or project
- An opportunity or fellowship
- A competition
- A datasheet or tool
- An India-specific supplier or resource
- Corrections to existing material
- Better explanations or diagrams
If you want to add a project or show off your own build in the lessons, look at Projects first. I'm trying to keep everything verifiable rather than letting it turn into another random link dump, and I'd like honest reviews on what to add and what to cut.
If you've worked in embedded, electronics, FPGA, VLSI, semiconductor fabrication, hardware security or anything nearby, I'd really like your input:
What would you add? What do you wish had existed when you were learning hardware?
Suggestions are welcome in the comments or as issues. If you find it useful, a star on the repo would mean a lot :3
