My parents blocked social media, so I turned SoloLearn into my marketing engine.
I'm Harun. I'm 12. I built KODA, an AI coding mentor, entirely on my Android phone.
Last week, I hit a wall. I wanted to get real users for KODA, but Google Family Link blocks Reddit, Twitter, Instagram, and even Incognito mode on my device. I couldn't post ads. I couldn't spam communities. I was stuck.
Most founders would panic. I decided to get creative.
The Discovery
I opened SoloLearn, a coding learning app. Immediately, I saw hundreds of posts from beginners saying:
- "I don't understand loops 😭"
- "How do I start?"
- "Help me build a game!"
These weren't just random users. These were my exact target audience. They were stuck, confused, and asking for the exact help KODA provides.
The Strategy: "Help First, Link Second"
I realized I didn't need to "market" to them. I needed to help them.
Here is the exact 3-step process I used to turn SoloLearn comments into KODA signups:
1. Find the Pain Point
I scanned the "Trending" and "Hot Today" sections for keywords like "stuck," "help," "confused," or "project."
Example: A user named Lillyyyy asked, "I want to do a project with python code (website) but I'm lost."
2. Provide Real Value
I didn't just drop a link. I wrote a genuine, helpful answer explaining the concept simply.
My Reply: "Hey! Building a website with Python is awesome. Usually, you use Flask or Django for the backend... Here's a quick tip..."
3. The "Trojan Horse" Pitch
At the end of my helpful answer, I added a P.S. that told my story:
"P.S. I actually built an AI mentor called **KODA* to help beginners with exactly this. I'm 12 and coded it on my phone. Try asking it: 'How do I make a website?' here: [Link]"*
The Results?
In just a few hours of answering questions:
- I helped 5+ beginners solve their immediate coding problems.
- I drove direct traffic to KODA from people who needed the tool.
- I built trust by being a peer (a 12-year-old coder) rather than a faceless company.
Why This Works Better Than Ads
- Trust: When you help someone fix a bug, they trust you. If you suggest a tool, they try it.
- Relevance: You aren't shouting into the void; you're answering specific questions from people raising their hands for help.
- Story: "Built by a 12-year-old on a phone" makes people curious. They click just to see how it's possible.
The Lesson
You don't need a massive budget or unlocked social media to grow. You just need to find where your users are struggling, show up with empathy, and offer a solution.
If you're a beginner reading this: Don't give up. There are tools (like KODA!) and communities ready to help you.
If you're a founder: Go where your users are hurting. Help them first. The growth will follow.
