I Built a Design Skill to Make AI-Generated Websites Less Generic — FireBall v3

AI can generate a website in seconds.

But there's a problem: a lot of AI-generated websites end up looking the same.

The same rounded cards.
The same gradients.
The same typography.
The same spacing.

I wanted to change that.

Meet FireBall DesignSkill

FireBall is an open-source design skill designed to help AI coding and design agents create interfaces that feel more intentional and adapted to the project.

Instead of forcing every project into the same visual style, FireBall focuses on understanding the context of the design and giving the AI more freedom to make appropriate decisions.

FireBall v3

v3 is now available.

The main improvements are:

• Denser designs — more information and stronger layouts without automatically making the interface messy.
• More design freedom — fewer rigid constraints and more room for the AI to adapt.
• Better adaptation — the design can better reflect the product, its purpose, and its visual direction.

The goal isn't to make every AI-generated website look different just for the sake of being different.

The goal is to make the design feel like it was actually designed for the project.

What's next?

Two upcoming versions are officially planned:

A dedicated version focused on Image-to-Website, with a complete system specifically designed for turning visual references into websites.

v3.5

More freedom in the design process, giving the AI even more room to make creative decisions.

There are also ideas for a v4, including a larger restructuring of the skill, overall improvements, and better generated designs.

However, v4 is not officially announced yet.
