Recent research conducted by 451 Research and SentinelOne reveals that AI is delivering significant returns in security operations centers (SOC) much faster than expected. While 96% of organizations are still in the early stages of AI maturity—focusing on basic monitoring and triage—99% already report measurable improvements in incident response and remediation. This suggests that the foundational work of implementing AI chatbots and automated triage tools provides immediate value before reaching advanced autonomous maturity.

The industry is also seeing a rapid shift toward platformization, with 82% of organizations consolidating their security stacks to create a unified data layer. This integration is essential for supporting agentic AI, which requires continuous access to connected data to perform autonomous actions. Furthermore, AI adoption is having a positive impact on the workforce by reducing analyst burnout, allowing personnel to shift from repetitive triage to more strategic, judgment-intensive investigations.

However, the acceleration of AI deployment introduces a new attack surface, including risks to data pipelines and model endpoints. Organizations are currently deploying AI faster than they are securing the underlying infrastructure. SentinelOne emphasizes that the path to an Autonomous SOC requires building robust governance and a common data foundation alongside deployment to capture the full benefits of AI at every maturity stage.
