I remember my professor telling me about how much stress is brought forward while working on software projects. Moreover, if you add lack of activity, eating on the go, and smoking into the mix you are creating a recipe that could have irreversible consequences to you and possible family members. So I wanted to open up a discussion and ask "How do work within the field without compromising of your health?" "What are some of things you would recommend to alleviate stress within workplace?" "How do you stay healthy?"

EXCELLENT question. In my 20's I DEFINITELY did a terrible job at this. I would probably be sedentary for more than 20 hours a day.
Luckily, the body of a 20's person can handle it.
And now...in my late thirties, I make sure to work out in the early half of the day. Normally, I walk 3-12 miles about 25-26 days of the month and I do weights every 2-3 days.
And now during COVID, I walk about every 3 days, and the other two days I do two different workout videos at home. I actually am benefitting hugely from the videos as they are helping me strengthen parts of my body I did not even realize need strengthening.
As far as diet: I cut out all drugs and alcohol 5 years ago, and before covid, I would smoke 3 cigarettes a year during times of extreme stress.
I also cut out any foods with sugar years ago too (however its ok to binge on a cookie or ice cream now and then....especially on a day where I have burnt a lot of calories)
I am 100% vegan, and I enjoy food very much.
Glad to hear things turned out better for you in regards to your health. I was just thinking how big the field of software is. A person could spend years working in just one section in the field. To move into another section requires time and preparation and I think investing into your health buys you that time.

Stress is a much overlooked factor taking on a new job or project. Most people don't realize it until they have experience the burnout effect. I asked a question to my brother a few months ago: Do diseases reflect their societies? What do you think?
Disease definitely reflects societies!
And yes, I have experienced burnout, so I take time to avoid it.
