I scanned 21 Shopify brands for AI-shopping readiness — average score was 69/100

Quick share from building SchemaRank (a Shopify app that audits/fixes Product JSON-LD for AI shopping agents).

To validate the problem beyond my own hunch, I sampled 21 real, well-known Shopify DTC brands and ran their product pages through the same 9-rule scoring engine the app uses. Full writeup: State of Shopify AI-Readiness 2026

Headline numbers

  • Average score: 69/100 (Grade C)
  • 2/21 had ZERO product structured data — not incomplete, absent
  • 67% missing a GTIN/MPN identifier
  • 62% missing a real aggregate rating in their JSON-LD
  • Only 10% missing a product image — the "easy" stuff is solved, the AI-agent-legible stuff isn't

Context on the business

App's been live on the Shopify App Store for about a week. One real install so far (uninstalled in 23 min, "testing multiple apps" — so there's a real competitive category forming, which is encouraging even if that particular install didn't stick). This report is my first real distribution push beyond the listing itself.

Curious if this resonates with anyone else who's tried the "publish real data" GTM motion for a dev tool — did it move the needle for you, or was it mostly vanity traffic?

ecommerce agents are the new gatekeepers. that 69/100 score is a wake up call. been obsessing over similar problems with blueprint.txt to help agents understand what an app can actually do. still figuring it out in cursor with the scan logic for stackapps.app. it is where i list indie tools like yours that are ready for the agent era.

Full disclosure: when I'm promoting something commercially I say so. I only write about tools I actually use.
