First, stuffs like these takes an incredible amount of effort, and I'll like to commend you for that.

Second, I'll like to make some suggestions on the newsletter format as it's currently seen on Substack.

Web users tend to scan the page looking for links they can click on or a heading section that will inform them what a story is all about.

Currently, the newsletter is using the following format:

  • Article summary
  • The link to the story as part of the summary right at the end.

Take note of the following:

  1. Some article summary are quite long and some users might not even read them before they get to the article link which is found at the end of the summary thereby reducing the possibility that they'll actually read the story.
  2. Each article links shows the main URL of the website e.g. arstechnica.com which in-turn links to the story on the website. This is not recommended for accessibility reasons because the link text should have a relationship with the link itself. Kindly read Using Meaningful Link Text.

With that out of the way, here are my suggestions:

  1. Kindly keep the article summary short, my recommendation: between 4 and 5 lines.
  2. The article link should be a heading section before the summary itself, and it should be the title of the article as it's seen on the Website. Read below for an example.

How an obscure British PC maker invented ARM and changed the world

This should be the article summary between 4 and 5 lines.

Overall, I do like your newsletter especially the summaries (but please keep them short), and I'll be reading it from now on.

Keep up the good work, and I'll look forward to the next edition. Cheers.
