Why We’re Building Verzii: Building a New Social Platform from Zero

Building another social platform in 2026 probably sounds like a crazy idea.

Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, LinkedIn and many other platforms already have massive audiences.

So the obvious question is:

Why build another one?

That's the question we're trying to answer while building Verzii.

What is Verzii?

Verzii is a social platform built around three simple ideas:

Discover. Create. Connect.

The idea is to bring people, creators and communities into a more connected social experience.

On Verzii, users can:

  • Discover people, creators and content
  • Create and share content
  • Follow creators and interests
  • Build and participate in communities
  • Build their digital identity
  • Connect with people and businesses

But building the product isn't the hardest part

The interesting technical challenge isn't simply creating another feed.

The difficult part is building the systems behind a social product that has to work when the number of users, creators, posts and communities keeps growing.

Some of the problems we're thinking about include:

  • How should content discovery work?
  • How do you balance fresh content with relevant content?
  • How should creators and communities be surfaced?
  • How do you design for a network that is initially small?
  • How do you prevent spam and low-quality content?
  • How do you build an experience that remains fast as the platform grows?
  • How do you make moderation scalable?
  • How do you create reasons for users to return?

These are product questions, but they quickly become engineering questions too.

The cold-start problem

One of the biggest challenges with any social product is the network effect.

A new user asks:

"Why should I join if my friends aren't here?"

A creator asks:

"Why should I spend time building an audience here?"

A community asks:

"Why should we move our conversations here?"

You can't solve this simply by adding more features.

You have to create enough value for the first users that they want to bring more people in.

That's one of the biggest things we're learning while building Verzii.

We're building from India, for a global audience

Verzii is being built from India with a global ambition.

We're not trying to simply replicate an existing social network.

We're exploring what a social platform could look like when:

people + creators + communities

are treated as interconnected parts of the same ecosystem.

We're building in public

We're still early.

That means we don't have all the answers.

Instead of pretending that everything is figured out, we're going to share the journey:

  • What we're building
  • Product decisions we're making
  • Technical challenges
  • User feedback
  • Experiments
  • What works
  • What doesn't
  • What we change

And that's where we'd love input from the developer community.

We'd love your feedback

If you've built:

  • a social platform
  • a community product
  • a marketplace
  • a creator platform
  • a consumer app
  • or anything with a network effect

I'd love to hear from you.

What is the hardest engineering problem you encountered when building a product that depends on network effects?

And if you were building a new social platform from scratch today:

What would you do differently?

We're listening.
