Total silence is actually distracting for me—I start noticing the hum of the fridge. But lyrics are worse; my brain tries to parse the words while I'm trying to parse code.
I couldn't find a consistent source of "technical" lo-fi—music that felt like it belonged in a terminal window—so I started creating my own. I launched Nightly FM specifically for this purpose.
