Formerly Known As

Keeping Up With The Renamed World

Tech changes fast.
Sometimes too fast.

One day you are confidently talking about a service, framework, tool, or company… and the next day it has a completely different name, a new logo, a rebrand announcement, and an updated pricing page. 😭

That is exactly why I am starting this series:

"Formerly Known As"

A blog series where I keep up with the former names of current resources, services, platforms, tools, and technologies across Cloud, AI, Web Development, and Tech in general.

Because honestly?

A huge part of learning tech is also learning its history.

If you have ever said things like:

  • “Wait… wasn’t this called something else before?”
  • “Isn’t this just a rebrand?”
  • “I still call it Twitter.”
  • “When did this AWS service change names?”
  • “Hold on… what happened to that?”

…then this series is for you, and mostly me.😂

I am going to explore:

1. Old names vs new names
2. Why companies rebrand
3. Mergers and acquisitions
4. Product evolution
5. Retired services
6. Tech nostalgia
7. The confusion these changes create for beginners

And maybe most importantly:
How keeping up with naming changes helps us better understand the tech ecosystem.

Some posts may be quick and fun.
Others may dive deeper into the history behind a platform or service.

Either way, this series is for:

  • Developers 👩🏽‍💻
  • Cloud learners ☁️
  • Curious tech people 🔍
  • Documentation readers 📚
  • People who still accidentally use old names 😅
  • Me.

"Formerly Known As."

The internet never forgets old names…
and apparently neither do we.

No particular frequency.
No particular theme.
Just the renamed things that cross my mind...and my notifications.
