Download Your Teleprompter Script as TXT in the Browser: What the Export and the Playback Counters Actually Do

I work on OnePassApps, and we build the browser apps behind this post. This one is the Browser Teleprompter. We have already written about its two stages and its sliders; this time we ran the parts that get skipped - playing the script and taking the file away.

Try it on the Browser Teleprompter, or see how it sits with the rest of the suite in the app guides.

The script I typed

The panel opens with one line: "Read a script at your own pace, with mirror controls. No camera or microphone."

The textarea's placeholder reads "Paste the script you want to read" and the field itself carries a maxlength of 60000. The app's own limit line under it reads "Up to 60,000 characters. Cleared when you leave."

I typed 74 characters, with a blank line in the middle:

Paragraph one line alpha
Paragraph one line beta

Paragraph two line gamma
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

The word counter on the same line read "12 words" for those 74 characters.

The paragraph counter

Above the display the app counts paragraphs, not lines: it read "Paragraph 2 of 2". The number is the paragraph you are on over the number of paragraphs in the script. Two lines of the first paragraph are one paragraph here, because the blank line is what separates them.

One detail worth reporting exactly rather than explaining away: immediately after typing, before any playback, that counter already read "Paragraph 2 of 2", and it read the same once the script had finished. So on a fresh script it is showing the last paragraph, not the first. I am reporting what it showed, not why.

While the script was sitting there, the display rendered the two lines of the first paragraph on one line - Paragraph one line alpha Paragraph one line beta - and started the second paragraph on a new one.

Playing it

With a script in the textarea, two icon buttons at the top of the display became usable: one whose only accessible name is "Play", and one labelled "Restart (Home)". On the empty page both were disabled, which is why an unfilled panel looks inert.

Pressing Play started the scroll and the two counters swapped over as it ran. Before playback: Elapsed 0:00 and Remaining 0:01. Four seconds later: Elapsed 0:01 and Remaining 0:00. The script was 74 characters, so at the default scroll speed of 40 px/s the whole thing ran out in about a second - and the counters say so: elapsed up to the total, remaining down to zero.

The page title never changed through any of it. It stayed "Browser Teleprompter — Scroll and mirror your script — OnePassApps", with no timer in it.

While the script was scrolling, the visible controls were "Load example script", "Download TXT", "Present full screen" and "Get started" - the Play and "Restart (Home)" icon buttons were no longer on screen in that state.

The panel still prints its own key map - "play or pause", "speed", "restart", "mirror" and "Escape pauses." - but I drove the Play button rather than the keyboard for this run, so nothing here claims what each key does.

The file that comes out

"Download TXT" writes one file called script.txt. Mine was 74 bytes, and its SHA-256 was 24097a5638343ecff1b1727d0dc06692c240178537be3ec39944eede1a65fd2d.

Read it back outside the browser and it is the script, byte for byte: 74 characters in, 74 bytes out, with the blank line between the paragraphs still there and no trailing newline added. Nothing was re-wrapped, nothing was escaped, and the line breaks are the ones I typed.

What I did not do

  • The Mirror switch - "Flip for a reflector" - was left off, and "Present full screen" was never opened, so nothing here claims what a reflector setup or the full-screen view looks like.
  • I did not type a 60,000-character script, so the ceiling is the field's own maxlength attribute and the app's limit line, not a limit I hit.
  • The page prints "Nothing leaves this tab." I did not run a network trace in this session, so that is the app's own wording and not something I re-measured here.
  • One build, one browser (Chrome on Linux), one signed-out session, measured on 7 November 2026.

Free right now

The panel carries a "FREE PROMOTIONAL PERIOD" note: "Standard is free right now", "$0 / month", "100,000 credits every 30 days", "No end date set", "No card required" and "No automatic paid subscription. Existing paid subscriptions keep their terms."
