Carton Sealing Machine Buying Guide: Tape Width, Box Range, Speed and Price

Carton sealer spec sheets can look alike at first glance. These are the numbers that actually decide whether a machine suits your line.

Tape width

Check which tape widths the tape heads accept. 48 mm covers most light and medium boxes. 60 or 72 mm gives a stronger seal on large or heavy cartons. Buying a machine that takes the tape you already stock saves money every month.

Box size range

Every sealer lists a minimum and maximum carton length, width and height. Measure your smallest and largest boxes and make sure both fall inside the range with some margin.

Belt speed

Speed is usually given in metres per minute. A higher number only helps if your packers can feed boxes that fast. For manual feeding, a moderate speed is often the more practical choice.

Drive type

Side belt drive grips the box from both sides and suits most cartons. Top and bottom belt drive handles very light or unstable boxes better.

Automation level

  • Semi automatic: fixed guides, operator folds the flaps
  • Random: adjusts to each box size on its own
  • Edge sealer: adds H-seal tape for heavy export cartons

Price

In India, an entry level semi automatic carton sealer starts at about Rs 57,500 plus GST. Random and edge sealers cost more but save labour on mixed or heavy loads. Compare the total cost with delivery, spares and service, not just the machine price.
