Why We Put Our Company Brain in FalkorDB: Building NEXUS

Every engineering team has a graveyard of forgotten architectural decisions. Someone asks "Why did we choose Kafka over RabbitMQ?", and no one remembers because the engineer who made the call left six months ago.

For the FalkorDB Graph Hacks Hackathon, we built NEXUSβ€”an AI context engine that uses FalkorDB as a living company brain.

The Problem with Ordinary Agents

Standard AI agents rely on vector search over flat text files. But company knowledge is fundamentally a graph:

  • People work on Projects
  • People make Decisions
  • Decisions reference Documents and supersede older Decisions
  • Technologies have reverse dependency blast radiuses

When an agent only has flat text, it hallucinates. When it has a graph, it follows real paths.

How FalkorDB Powers NEXUS

  1. Multi-Hop Traversal: Translating natural questions into Cypher ((Person)-[:MADE]->(Decision)-[:REFERENCES]->(Document)).
  2. Decision Archaeology: Tracking superseded technologies with [:SUPERSEDES] edges so history is never lost.
  3. Cross-Session Agent Memory: Storing conversation sessions and episodic memory as graph nodes in FalkorDB.
  4. Autonomous Coordination: Agents write :Handoff nodes into FalkorDB to delegate tasks to other agents.
