i built zambo alone. no team. no funding. no shortcuts.

i built zambo alone. no team. no funding. no shortcuts.

my name is brennan zambo. i am the solo founder of zambo.dev, the trust layer for ai work. i wrote the aer-1 spec. i built the mcp server. i shipped 871 pages. i did it with nothing but a laptop and an obsession.

this is how.

where i started

i was a severe alcoholic for ten years. almost died. multiple rehabs. sober livings. homeless at points. the kind of story that does not have a happy ending most of the time.

i have been sober for over two years now. that is not a talking point. that is the foundation everything else stands on. without sobriety, there is no zambo. there is nothing.

when i got sober, i had nothing. no money. no network. no credentials. what i had was what my sponsor called "passionate execution and obsessive adhd." i decided to point all of it at one thing and not stop.

why i built zambo

i watched ai agents do work and nobody could prove what happened. the agent says "done." you trust it or you do not. there is no receipt. no proof. no way to check.

that bothered me at a level i could not ignore. in a world where ai is about to run finance, healthcare, legal, infrastructure, "trust me" is not an answer. we needed proof.

so i built it. not a pitch deck. not a waitlist. the actual thing. a verifiable receipt for every ai job, defined in an open spec, implemented in code, live on the internet.

what "bootstrapped" actually means

bootstrapped means i did everything. the spec. the code. the docs. the site. the articles. the mcp server with 138 tools. the ietf draft. the conformance suite. all of it.

it means 9 months of building, mostly alone, mostly at night, after working my day job. it means learning ietf processes from scratch. it means writing a cryptographic spec with no cryptography background, just relentless reading and testing until it was right.

it means getting rejected. getting ignored. getting told it would not work. getting told i needed a team, needed funding, needed permission. i did not have any of those things. i built anyway.

the struggles

people do not tell you about the struggles. let me tell you.

i got my github accounts flagged for posting too much. lost years of work visibility overnight. switched to gitlab and kept going.

i got banned from discord servers for talking about what i built. kept going.

i got told aer-1 would never be taken seriously as an ietf draft. it is now at draft -15, validated by independent implementers.

i got told nobody would use a receipt layer. 53,000 unique visitors in 30 days. a paying customer. real receipts in the wild.

every "no" was just information. every block was just a reroute. the only way to lose was to stop, and i did not stop.

what i learned

sobriety taught me that you can rebuild from zero. not metaphorically. literally. from homeless to shipping an ietf draft. from a decade of drinking to 9 months of obsessive building.

the lesson is not "work hard." everyone says that. the lesson is: pick one thing that matters, and do not stop until it is real. not announced. not planned. real. live. verifiable.

zambo is real. the receipts work. the spec is public. the code is open. anyone can check.

why i am telling you this

not for sympathy. not for applause. because someone out there is where i was: nothing, no one believing in them, a head full of noise. i want them to know it is possible to build something that matters from nothing.

you do not need vcs. you do not need permission. you do not need a team of twenty. you need one obsession and the discipline to execute on it every day.

i am brennan zambo. i built the trust layer for ai work. alone. sober. still standing.
