How do you display your code nicely (for example to present a snippet)?

Sometimes short snippets or a few important lines of code have to be presented nicely. Whether it's on a web page that doesn't actually have a function for displaying and highlighting code, or in a presentation for the next meeting. And maybe it is sometimes more important to display the code in a nice visual way, because the target group might not be able to appreciate the code itself that much.

What tools do you use for this? Do you just take a screenshot of your editor? Do you have a workflow in Photoshop an image editing program, to manually prepare the code? Or do you use (online) tools developed especially for this purpose?

I can recommend Carbon.now because you can

  • choose a theme
  • choose the language (or let it autodetect)
  • set custom colors
  • tweet directly
  • copy embed URL (speaking URLs)
  • copy as PNG/SVG
  • visit the link any time in the future and it works
