Enterprise AI Vendors Should Sell the Workflow, Not the Ambition
A discussion published on r/artificial on October 28, 2026, at 07:30 UTC points to a practical constraint in China's enterprise AI market: a specific application may be easier to sell than a broad platform.
That distinction matters. A platform pitch asks enterprises to imagine a new operating model, while a focused application can be evaluated against a defined business task, existing workflow, and measurable result. The sales conversation becomes narrower, the decision more concrete, and the value proposition easier to assess.
The stronger opportunity is therefore not to sell enterprise AI as an all-purpose technology layer. Vendors should identify one costly, recurring workflow, demonstrate where AI fits inside it, and make the return visible. General-purpose platforms may remain part of the long-term vision, but the initial transaction is likely to happen at the application level.
For enterprise buyers, this is a healthier test: ask what process is being improved, what remains under human control, and how the result is measured. For AI companies, it means building the first sale around a concrete problem rather than around platform ambition.
