So many people are digging for gold in agents. What should the shovel look like?

I've been off work for about two weeks, over the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays. Today I'm back, working from home.

I took a break. The agent market didn't.

I work at a SaaS company. We've already built an agent platform that can work around the clock. We got an early start, and it's been making a small profit for six months now. Then OpenAI came out with dots. Looking at all the agents already out there, it's hard for a small team to pretend we don't feel the pressure.

What should the shovel look like?

More and more people are digging for gold in agents. So we started wondering: what should the shovel actually look like?

We built Busabase, a general-purpose database and workspace designed for AI agents.

Where the work lives

Agents can already research customers, write articles, and update project progress. But when they're done, where does all that work go?

Customer info stays in one chat, project updates in another, and the way to do the work lives in a file on someone's computer. Switch teammates or agents, and you have to explain the background all over again.

With Busabase, we want to keep these things in one place: business records, docs, skills, and apps, so people and connected agents can pick up where the work left off.

For example, have an agent research a customer and save the customer record, research notes, and criteria for deciding whether they're a good fit. Next time, another agent can read that material and follow up, without piecing the background together from chat logs.

Skills and playbooks in a Busabase workspace

Skills and working instructions stay in the workspace.

What it can change and which changes need review depend on permissions. You can also look back through the history of recorded changes.

Will building software for agents make more money than building agents? Hopefully. Busabase hasn't started bringing in revenue yet.

But we can at least show you what software built for agents looks like.

Busabase is open source. You can use it locally, self-host it, or use the Cloud version.

We're launching on Product Hunt tomorrow, October 9, 2026, at 15:00 UTC+8. I'm one of the developers on the team, and I'd like to hear what you think.

That's October 9 in every time zone listed here: 00:00 PDT (US West Coast), 03:00 EDT (US East Coast), 07:00 UTC, 08:00 BST (UK), 09:00 CEST (Central Europe), and 16:00 JST (Japan).

Agents can do more and more. What should the business systems supporting that work look like? That's the question we're trying to answer with Busabase. Come see our take on the shovel at https://busabase.com, and tell us what you think.
