Build your defenses
as if the wall
has already been climbed.
Because someday
it will be.
The old model
was a hard shell:
one strong perimeter,
soft trust inside.
Get past the wall
and you owned everything.
That's a great design
for the attacker.
Assume they're already in.
Now every door inside
needs its own lock.
Every service
proves who it is.
Every request
earns its access,
every time.
The database
doesn't trust the app
just because
it's on the same network.
This feels paranoid
until the day
it saves you —
the day one thing falls
and, because you assumed this,
it's the only thing that falls.
A breach is not
one catastrophic moment.
It's a series of doors.
You can't stop
the first one opening.
You can make sure
it doesn't open all the rest.
Trust is a blast radius.
Keep it small.
