So you rush the hard run,
stumble, back up, rush again,
and practice the stumble
until the stumble is the song.
Here's the thing nobody wants to hear:
slow is the fast way.
Play it slow enough to play it perfect.
Every note clean, every finger sure.
Then nudge the tempo up by a hair.
You're not practicing the notes.
You're practicing getting them right,
and speed built on error
just gets you to the mistake sooner.
Slow is not the beginner's tempo.
It's the craftsman's.
Earn the speed.
Don't borrow it.
