When I read that LinkedIn post predicting which programmers will still be valuable two years from now, something stirred in me. Not motivation. Not admiration. Anxiety. The post laid out six archetypes of the "worthy" developer: those who research AI every day, full-stack engineers, those with deep hard skills and real architectural understanding, those who understand business, those who can debug AI outputs, and those who have real deployment experience. On the surface, it reads like a reasonable forecast. But beneath it, I felt the familiar pressure I had finally escaped during those 70 to 80 days when Iran's internet was cut off.
Back then, with no constant feed of new models, no daily updates on what I was supposedly missing, I experienced something rare: peace. I returned to a slower rhythm of learning. I opened a concept, read it page by page, chewed on it, and actually understood it by the time I reached the end. No anxiety about falling behind. No FOMO about today's breakthrough. Just genuine, deep absorption. Those days proved to me that learning is not measured by speed or quantity of consumed content. Yet posts like that LinkedIn article try to convince us otherwise. They create a false sense of urgency, as if not being a full-stack developer today means irrelevance tomorrow. But let's examine that claim quietly.
The statement "for one physics project, no company wants five people" is an untested hypothesis. It might hold for a three-person startup, but in large software teams, five specialists across five layers often deliver more robust results than one full-stack generalist stretched thin. The post also praises deep hard skills, but then equates ownership of outcome exclusively with full-stack capability. What about a front-end specialist who deeply understands rendering performance and state management, or a back-end engineer who masters concurrent transactions and query optimization? They own their layers with the same depth the author admires.
Another hidden contradiction: the writer says AI can write a function but cannot understand what the client truly wants. Exactly. So why would a front-end developer who deeply understands user experience, or a back-end developer who ensures data security and speed, be less valuable than a full-stack counterpart? Specialization still matters. And the demand to "research AI every day" is vague at best. Does every programmer need to become a researcher? Is solving business problems less worthwhile than testing the latest model? This kind of rhetoric manufactures stress, not insight.
My own experience during those offline days became my antidote. Without the noise, I realized that depth matters more than pace. Understanding one concept thoroughly outlasts skimming ten superficially. The market does not need a single template. It needs both vertical specialists who know one layer inside out and horizontal generalists who can cover the whole stack. Both paths are valid. Both are necessary.
So when I read posts that tell me I must run faster, I remember the quiet months when I moved slowly and still grew. Real learning is not a race. It is a practice of patience and focus. And perhaps the most valuable programmer is not the one who ticks every box on today's trend list, but the one who preserves the calm needed to truly understand.
