Introducing Myself on the First Day of My Outreachy Internship in the Bioconductor Community

Introducing Myself…

Hello everyone 👋!

I’m Sonali Kumari, a B.Tech student specializing in Electronics and Communication Engineering with a focus on Artificial Intelligence. I am pursuing my studies at IGDTUW in Delhi. I am passionate about working with open-source organizations as they offer unique opportunities to learn, collaborate, and achieve remarkable results, even in remote settings. My interests span across the expansive domains of technology and open science, encompassing both technical expertise and a strong inclination towards research.

Knowing more about me…

Let’s delve into my personal core values, which I strongly believe have played a pivotal role in attaining the greatest opportunities I have encountered to date.

Curiosity, Consistency, and a Love for Learning form the foundation of my core values.

Curiosity drives my desire to explore and discover, while consistency helps me stay focused and committed. Above all, my passion for learning fuels my personal growth and development. These core values shape my approach to life and guide me on a path of continuous improvement.

My Journey to Applying and Securing an Outreachy Internship in my first attempt…

I came to know about Outreachy through online platforms like YouTube, and I applied for the first time in the May 2023 cohort.

During the initial application process, I answered all the questions with simplicity and honesty, which resulted in the acceptance of my initial application.

In the contribution period, I chose only one project to work on and gave my best effort. As a result, I was selected as an intern for that project. It was my first time contributing to open source, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. My journey of applying to Outreachy has been both exciting and a great learning experience for me.

My first day of Internship…

It was an incredibly enjoyable and uplifting first day for me. I had the privilege of having a one-on-one meeting with my mentor, Jennifer Wokaty. During our session, they provided me with invaluable insights about the project and the community. We had a delightful conversation and also discussed the working plan for week 1. Overall, my first day was brimming with opportunities for learning, excitement, and pure enjoyment.

So that’s it… Hope you have enjoyed reading the blog.

Thanks for your time to read my first ever blog!
