The Bottleneck Problem
For 23+ years, I've been the architect, the codebase encyclopedia, and the go-to person for every product question at NetGain Systems. Our product, Cloud Vista, is a large enterprise monitoring platform — decades of code, thousands of features, deep domain knowledge baked into every layer.
The problem? I was the bottleneck.
Every technical question, every "how does this work?", every product decision — it all funneled through me. My team is talented, but institutional knowledge lived in my head. I couldn't scale myself, and I couldn't step away without things slowing down.
So I built my replacement.
The Tools
AMA (Ask Me Anything)
An AI-powered product expert that knows our entire codebase inside out. It ingests our repositories, understands the architecture, and answers technical questions the way I would.
My team can now ask:
- "How does the alerting pipeline work?"
- "Where is the dashboard rendering logic?"
- "What's the data flow for NetFlow ingestion?"
And get accurate, contextual answers — instantly, at 3am, on a Sunday.
Engage
An internal communications platform that keeps the team connected and informed, replacing scattered emails and lost context. Think of it as the connective tissue that keeps everyone aligned without me having to be in every conversation.
Together, these tools do what I used to do manually: be the always-available expert and keep everyone aligned.
What Changed
- Team moves faster — no waiting for me to be free
- No single point of failure — institutional knowledge is now accessible to everyone
- Strategic focus — I work on architecture and strategy instead of being the daily Q&A desk
- 24/7 availability — the AI doesn't take holidays, doesn't forget, and doesn't burn out
The Irony
As someone who knows the code inside out, I was uniquely positioned to build these tools. You need deep product knowledge to teach an AI your product. But once it's trained, you've effectively cloned the most valuable — and most bottlenecked — part of yourself.
This is the key insight: the best person to build your AI replacement is you. Nobody else has the context depth needed to train it properly.
Not Replaced — Freed Up
I'm not replaced. I'm freed up.
My role shifted from being the answer to being the architect who empowers the team. And honestly? It's a much better use of my time.
If you're a founder or technical lead who's become the bottleneck in your own company — consider building your AI replacement. The best person to do it is you. And the best time is before you burn out.
Cloud Vista v15 — the platform I built these tools for. 23+ years of enterprise monitoring, now with AI agents that know the product as well as I do.
