I've been running both in production for months. Here's the honest comparison — not marketing copy, not benchmarks, actual workflow differences.

The fundamental difference

Cursor 3: Editor-first. You stay in VS Code, the AI assists you.

Claude Code: Terminal-first. The AI runs your code, reads errors, iterates.

This sounds subtle. It's not. It changes how you think about your workflow.

What Cursor 3 does well

  • Inline edits feel natural if you're already in VS Code
  • Tab completion is fast and context-aware
  • The new VS Code integration in Cursor 3 is genuinely better
  • Great for surgical edits: "fix this function"

What Claude Code does well

  • Full agentic loops: write → run → read error → fix → repeat

The rate limit problem
