answer-me-with-html: Stop Drowning in Text Walls — Let the Agent Answer with a Readable Page

Ask an AI a hard question and you've probably seen this: a dense wall of text scrolls by — a dozen headings, nested lists, a pile of parallel concepts. The answer is in there, but you can't make yourself read it.

The root cause isn't that the AI answered badly. It's that the output format is wrong: a wall of terminal text is a poor carrier for knowledge that has structure and hierarchy.

answer-me-with-html (2402 stars, MIT) changes the carrier: don't answer in text — answer with a readable page.

The core design: a draft + a renderer

The key engineering decision is that it does not let the model write the full HTML (that would multiply token cost). It splits the job:

Step Owner Output
1. Organize content The model A short Markdown draft
2. Render layout The skill's bundled CLI A complete single-file HTML page

The authors' headline number: the model writes roughly 1/8 of the tokens it would need to hand-write the HTML.

Why this split works:

  • Cost stays sane: the model handles what to say, not how to lay it out;
  • Layout is stable: a fixed renderer doesn't depend on the model writing good HTML every time;
  • The artifact travels: single file, works offline — open it, forward it, archive it.

Install and use

# Option 1: let the agent read the install doc
# Paste this into Claude Code / Codex / Cursor / OpenCode / Pi:
# Install Answer me with HTML: read https://raw.githubusercontent.com/QingYunA/answer-me-with-html/main/INSTALL.md and follow it.

# Option 2: npx
npx -y skills add QingYunA/answer-me-with-html -g -y -a <your agent name>

# Option 3: Claude Code plugin
# /plugin marketplace add QingYunA/answer-me-with-html
# /plugin install answer-me-with-html@answer-me-with-html
Enter fullscreen mode Exit fullscreen mode

No further configuration. Requirements: Node.js 20+ (the CLI ships inside the skill, so no npm install step).

Where it fits, and where it doesn't

Good fit: complex Q&A you want to keep, forward, or present (option analyses, comparisons, knowledge summaries); escaping the terminal reading experience; turning AI output into shareable material.

Poor fit: quick lookups you'd scan and discard (a full HTML page is heavier); expecting better answers (it's an output-format tool, not a reasoning upgrade); environments without Node.js 20+.

I've localized the README to Chinese and added a "中文快速上手" section on top — what it solves, the shortest install path, requirements, and common pitfalls: https://github.com/yangshun2005/answer-me-with-html-cn

If you find this project useful, a star on the original repo supports the author's ongoing maintenance.
