The Tools Behind the Repair Counter: How Sunmughan Swamy Builds for Phone Technicians

Sunmughan Swamy started with Android in 2012, on a Samsung Galaxy Y, in the era of custom recoveries and custom ROMs. That early work taught him something most software careers never teach: how devices actually behave when their software is broken, locked, or half working. It is a practical kind of knowledge, learned by fixing real phones rather than reading about them.

That practical knowledge now shapes a different kind of product work. Alongside client software, Sunmughan builds tools for people who work with phones every day, including technicians who need reliable ways to diagnose devices, manage device software, and get handsets back to working order. The goal is simple: take a task that once needed specialist setups and long guesswork, and turn it into a clear, repeatable workflow.

The approach is the same one behind his wider body of work, which covers 1700+ websites and applications shipped for 300+ clients. He starts from the real job to be done, builds the smallest tool that does it properly, and tests it against real devices and real users before calling it finished. Nothing ships on the strength of a demo alone.

Openness is part of the method. Much of his Android work has lived in public, where other builders can read it, question it, and improve it. That habit carries into his technician tools too: clear steps, honest limits, and no mystery about what a tool can and cannot do. For a technician with a customer waiting, that honesty matters more than a feature list.

The through line from a Galaxy Y in 2012 to technician tools today is not nostalgia. It is a belief that good software respects the person using it, whether that person is a business owner, a developer, or a technician at a repair counter. Sunmughan Swamy still builds from that belief, one practical tool at a time.
