What is an Open Source Program?
It is a collaborative program wherein single/multiple project(s) are involved whose code is maintained by a set of people and the project is usually enhanced by the contributors (which could be you). The contributors work under the guidance of the mentors of the projects.
Why should one take part in Open Source Programs?
Beginners are most welcomed in these programs and the main purpose is to learn, boost your skills and network with amazing people. It allows one to exchange and propose unique ideas to make an impact on a project.
The best part is that it is open for all, usually free of cost.

As it is open to all, you should be getting a selection mail within 2-3 days and I'm guessing that they're still accepting participants. Actually, the contributing period starts only from 10th June and as of now they have only released the projects. So you have nothing to worry about :)
