Payoneer Account Types
Individual Accounts
Individual Payoneer accounts are designed for freelancers, remote workers, self-employed professionals, and other individuals who receive payments in their own name. This is the most common account type and the primary focus of this guide. Verification for individual accounts involves confirming the personal identity of the account holder through government-issued documentation and proof of residential address.
Business Accounts
Business Payoneer accounts are designed for formally registered companies, partnerships, and other legal business entities that process payments commercially. Business accounts require verification of the business entity itself as well as the individuals who control or own it. They offer higher transaction limits and additional features suited to organizational financial management.
Marketplace-Linked Accounts
Some users create Payoneer accounts specifically through a marketplace partner's platform — for example, signing up for Payoneer through the Amazon Seller Central dashboard or the Upwork payment settings interface. These accounts function identically to directly created Payoneer accounts and have the same verification requirements, but the initial account creation process begins within the marketplace partner's interface rather than on the Payoneer website directly.
Verification Levels and What Each Unlocks
Level 1 — Basic Unverified Account
A newly created Payoneer account that has not undergone verification has extremely limited functionality. Basic account creation allows you to explore the platform interface, but the ability to receive payments, withdraw funds, or access meaningful features is blocked or severely restricted until verification is completed.
Level 2 — Email and Phone Confirmed
After confirming your email address and verifying your phone number, your account gains access to limited platform features. However, this level is an intermediate step rather than a functional financial tool — significant restrictions on receiving and withdrawing funds remain in place.
Level 3 — Fully KYC Verified
Full KYC verification — achieved by submitting and receiving approval for a government-issued identity document, proof of address, and banking information — is the primary milestone that unlocks the platform's core capabilities. At this level, verified users gain access to:
Global payment receiving accounts with local bank details in multiple currencies
Marketplace and platform payment collection across all integrated partners
Local bank withdrawals in the user's home country
The Payoneer Prepaid Mastercard (in eligible countries)
Direct payment sending and receiving between Payoneer accounts
The billing and invoicing service
Significantly higher transaction limits
Level 4 — Enhanced Verification
For users with very high transaction volumes or those conducting activity in higher-risk categories, Payoneer may require additional verification beyond standard KYC. This enhanced level may involve source of funds documentation, additional identity checks, or more comprehensive account reviews.

Step-by-Step Verification Process
Step 1: Create Your Payoneer Account
Visit payoneer.com and click "Register" or "Sign Up." You will be asked to select between individual and company account types. Choose the option that accurately reflects your situation.
Full Legal Name: Enter your name precisely as it appears on your government-issued ID. This is the single most critical field in the entire registration process. Any discrepancy between your registered name and your identity document — even a missing middle name, an abbreviated first name, or a name component in a different order — is one of the most common causes of verification failure. Take your time and copy your name exactly from your ID.
Email Address: Choose an email address you have reliable, permanent access to. This is your primary Payoneer login credential and the address to which all account notifications, payment alerts, security communications, and compliance requests will be sent indefinitely. Do not use a temporary, work-provided, or otherwise potentially impermanent email address.
Date of Birth: Enter accurately. Your date of birth is cross-referenced with your identity document during verification, and any discrepancy is grounds for rejection.
Country of Residence: Select your actual current country of residence. This determines the payment methods, currencies, withdrawal options, and verification documents available to you.
Residential Address: Provide your complete, current physical residential address. Use the same address that appears on the proof of address document you plan to submit.
Phone Number: Enter your mobile phone number including the country code. This is used for account security and verification.
Password: Create a strong, unique password not used on any other platform. Use a combination of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters of at least 8 characters. A password manager is strongly recommended.
Security Question: Select a security question and provide a memorable answer. Store this information securely as it may be required for account recovery.
Step 2: Confirm Your Email Address
After completing registration, Payoneer sends a confirmation email to your registered address. Open the email and click the verification link immediately. This step is mandatory before proceeding with any subsequent verification steps or accessing meaningful account functionality.
If the email does not arrive within a few minutes, check your spam or junk folder. You can request a resend from the Payoneer login page. Ensure you have reliable inbox access to your registered email address before beginning registration.
Step 3: Complete the Account Application
After email confirmation, Payoneer guides you through an account application that gathers additional information about your intended use of the platform:
Purpose of Account: Describe how you plan to use Payoneer — receiving freelance payments, withdrawing marketplace earnings, paying suppliers, or other specific purposes. Be accurate and specific.
Primary Source of Payments: Indicate where your payments will primarily come from — marketplace platforms, direct client payments, employer payments, and so on.
Expected Annual Volume: Provide a realistic estimate of the total amount you expect to receive through Payoneer annually. This helps Payoneer configure your account appropriately and flag any significant discrepancies between stated and actual activity later.
Industry or Professional Category: Select the category that most accurately describes your work or business.
Accuracy at this stage is important. Significant inconsistencies between your stated account purpose and your actual transaction patterns can trigger compliance reviews that proactive accuracy can prevent.
Step 4: Verify Your Phone Number
During or after the application process, Payoneer will ask you to verify your phone number. Enter your complete number including the international country code and request a verification code via SMS. Enter the code to confirm ownership of the number.
A verified phone number enables two-factor authentication for account security, provides an additional channel for account recovery if needed, and allows Payoneer to send security alerts for unusual account activity.
Step 5: Submit Your Government-Issued Identity Document
This is the core step of Payoneer's KYC verification process. In the identity verification section of your application, select the document type you are submitting.
Submitting a Passport:
A passport is the most universally accepted and recommended identity document for Payoneer verification. It is a single document that authoritatively confirms your identity, nationality, and date of birth in one place, eliminating the risk of discrepancies between multiple documents.
Open your passport to the biographical data page — the page containing your photograph and all personal details. Lay the open passport flat on a plain, contrasting surface. Photograph the entire page, ensuring that your photograph, full name, date of birth, nationality, passport number, issue date, expiry date, and the machine-readable zone at the bottom of the page are all fully visible and perfectly legible in the image.
Submitting a National Identity Card:
If you are using a national identity card, place the card face-up on a contrasting surface and photograph the front clearly with all four corners visible and all text perfectly legible. Flip the card and photograph the back with equal care. Both front and back images are required and both must meet the full quality standards.
Submitting a Driver's License:
Follow the same approach as for a national identity card — photograph both front and back clearly, with all four corners visible and all text legible. Note that driver's licenses are not accepted in all countries on Payoneer — verify the specific accepted documents for your country before choosing this option.
Absolute Quality Requirements:
Full color is mandatory without exception. Black-and-white images, grayscale scans, and photocopies are rejected. Color is required because it enables document authentication features that monochrome images cannot support.
All four corners must be visible in the frame. No part of the document can be cropped, cut off, folded under, or otherwise absent from the image. The complete document must appear within the photograph.
Complete legibility is required for every piece of text on the document — your name, date of birth, document number, expiry date, and all other printed information must be sharp and fully readable without magnification.
The document must be currently valid. Payoneer does not accept expired identity documents under any circumstances. Check your document's expiry date before beginning the submission process.
The image must not show any signs of digital editing, retouching, or manipulation. Any alteration to the document or its image results in immediate rejection and may trigger a fraud investigation.
Expert Photography Techniques for Best Results:
Natural daylight from a window is the optimal light source for document photography. Position yourself near a window and use ambient daylight rather than direct sunlight. Natural light provides even, consistent illumination that reveals fine text details without creating glare or harsh shadows.
Avoid flash photography entirely when photographing laminated identity documents or passport biographical pages. Camera flash creates intense reflective glare on these surfaces that renders critical details invisible. If natural light is insufficient, use a desk lamp positioned at a 45-degree angle to the document surface rather than directly above it.
Select a plain, matte, high-contrast surface as your background. A dark wooden desk works well as a background for light-colored documents. A sheet of plain white paper provides a clean background for dark-colored documents.
Position your camera or phone directly above the document, perfectly perpendicular to its surface. Any angular positioning creates perspective distortion that makes the document appear trapezoidal, which can cause automated verification systems to flag the submission.
Use your smartphone's dedicated document scanning mode if available. Most current smartphones include document scanning features that automatically detect document edges, correct perspective distortion, optimize contrast and sharpness, and crop the image precisely to the document boundaries. These features consistently produce better results than standard camera mode.
After capturing the image, zoom in to inspect every detail at full resolution before uploading. Confirm that your name, document number, expiry date, and photograph are all sharp and clearly readable. If any detail is unclear or difficult to read, retake the photograph rather than submitting a marginal image that may be rejected.
