Google presented Gemini 4 Carbon on October 28, 2026, calling it its most capable frontier model so far. The pitch is less about quick answers and more about long-running work: complex engineering problems handled through automated workflows, and autonomous agents such as Spark that keep a task going for a long time.
Cybersecurity is the other half of the story. Access starts with cyber defenders and will gradually extend to trusted partners; there is no date yet for general availability.
On benchmarks, the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index v5.0 puts Carbon first with 59 points, one point above Claude Opus 5.5 in the compared configuration (Carbon high vs. Opus max). That describes the intended role and test results, not how it will behave in every real deployment.
