I Built 85+ Free Financial Calculators for Gig Workers — Here's What I Learned

If you drive for DoorDash, sell on Amazon FBA, or work
as a 1099 contractor — tax season is a nightmare.

I noticed there were no free, simple calculators
specifically built for gig workers. Every tool was either
paywalled, confusing, or built for accountants.

So I built TheMetricApp.

What I Built

85+ free financial calculators targeting:

  • DoorDash & Uber Eats drivers
  • Amazon FBA & Etsy sellers
  • 1099 contractors & freelancers
  • TikTok Shop merchants

All calculators are 100% free. No signup. No paywall.

Tech Stack

  • Next.js 14
  • Tailwind CSS
  • Deployed on Vercel

What I Learned

  1. Niche beats general
    "Tax calculator" has insane competition.
"DoorDash tax estimator" has real users with a
    specific problem. Go niche.

  2. Speed matters
Gig workers check their earnings on mobile,
between deliveries. Every calculator had to load
fast and work on small screens.

  3. SEO from day one
Each calculator targets a specific keyword.
Building in Next.js made this easy with
    server-side rendering.

Try It

The DoorDash Tax Estimator is the most popular —
try it if you're a gig worker or building something
similar.
