Samsung's Galaxy S26 goes on sale March 11. Its headline AI feature is called Now Nudge. It sits in the keyboard toolbar, reads your conversations in real time, and surfaces actions it thinks you should take. If a friend asks for vacation photos, Now Nudge pulls up the relevant album. If someone mentions a date and time, it offers to create a calendar event. If a conversation involves money, it suggests a payment.
The user doesn't ask for any of this. The agent watches, interprets, and presents. The human's role is to tap yes or ignore it.

The Delay
The same week, Apple pushed back the Gemini-powered Siri features that were planned for iOS 26.4. Bloomberg and The Verge reported latency spikes and hallucination errors in internal testing. When the full version does ship, it will chain up to ten sequential actions from a single natural language request. Apple has Face ID on roughly two billion devices. It has the most sophisticated biometric verification infrastructure ever deployed to consumers. It has a billion-dollar-a-year deal with Google for the reasoning engine. It has every component. And it delayed again — because the integration kept failing in testing.

The Inversion
Every authorization system built for AI agents assumes a reactive model. The human decides what to do. The agent figures out how. The authorization layer sits between intention and execution: did the human approve this specific action?

The difference matters more than it looks. In the reactive model, the human sets the agenda. The agent's scope is bounded by what the human asks for. The pipeline exists independent of what it produces. Today it produces suggestions that require a tap. Tomorrow it could produce actions that execute automatically within defined parameters — the same graduated escalation that enterprise agent systems have been building for two years, now arriving on consumer phones. Samsung explicitly designed Now Nudge as a first step. The "beginning" language was deliberate.
Apple's architecture, when it ships, will look different on the surface. Siri responds to voice commands — reactive, not anticipatory. But ten-action chains with on-screen awareness blur the boundary. When Siri reads your screen, identifies a restaurant, makes a reservation, adds it to your calendar, and texts the address to your friend — all from "handle dinner" — the practical difference from anticipatory agency narrows. The Question That Wasn't Asked
The enterprise authorization conversation has spent two years on a specific question: when an agent acts, how do you verify that a human approved the action? Biometric verification, content hashing, audit trails, delegation chains. The entire infrastructure assumes someone asked the agent to do something.
Now Nudge asks a different question: when the agent suggests and the human taps, who decided?

This is not a new dynamic in human experience.
