TinyMCE 7 - Revision History, Document Converters, Markdown and more!

TinyMCE 7.0 Release Notes - Overview

The latest version of TinyMCE is out and we have several highly requested features including Markdown, Revision History, and Document Converters. TinyMCE 7.0 will also be licensed under GPLv2+ and also carries 17 bug fixes.

Our Engineering, Product, and Design teams have been hard at work, and today we're excited to share the results of their hard work with you. :)

What's New and Improved?

- Revision History

Enhance audit trails and collaborative editing with the capability to track and review every change across versions.

- Document Converters

Streamline content adaptation with seamless import and export functionalities for Word documents and PDF conversions.

- Markdown Support

Simplify your tech infrastructure with markdown to rich text conversions directly within the editor.

- SOC 2 Type 1 Compliance

TinyMCE now stands as the sole rich text editor backed by a SOC 2 compliant entity, with plans to achieve Type 2 compliance by mid-2024.

- GPLv2+ License

TinyMCE 7.0 is now licensed under GPLv2+ license. We offer the option to purchase a commercial license. This removes the copyleft requirements of GPLv2+, allowing you to use TinyMCE without affecting the proprietary status of your application's code.

We would also like to reassure you that older versions of TinyMCE remain under their original license (i.e. TinyMCE 6 would be under MIT). We will continue to issue security fixes for the open source version of TinyMCE 6 for some time to give you time to consider the upgrade to TinyMCE 7.

It’s always advisable to consult with a legal expert in software licensing to ensure full compliance. Please let us know if you have any additional questions or concerns around this.

Bug Fixes

TinyMCE 7 includes fixes for 17 bug fixes reported by the community. See the changelog for details.
