What is your "what if" plan? What is your "back-up" career? your "lifeline" if software engineering somehow wasn't an option anymore for you?
Mayb...

I believe the traditional progression goes: 1) software developer, 2) burn out, 3) woodworking.
Oooo woodworking?
That seems to be the trend with all my retired coworkers. Except for the one who went into blacksmithing.
You’re hilarious! Thanks for the laugh. 😂
I would become a teacher in, ideally, math and programming. Teaching is something I've loved even since before I found my love for programming, but programming eventually became my career choice. But if I were to ever get tired of the world of software development I have already planned to become a teacher, preferably for high school students. Maybe middle school, but definitely not younger than that.
I love teaching! I've done some sort of teaching since middle school!
life in the jungle 🌲🌳🌲🌴🪵🌱🌿🪨🍃🎋 alone with nothing!
The true digital nomad life? :o
I'd become a Photographer. For consistent income, I'd also be a Barista.
self-made photographer or trained?
A bit of both. I've done coursework and second shooting.
Most of what I've done is classic or copying someone's style. I'm hoping to establish my own style.
Probably Photographer/Digital Artist.
Or I'll just open up a Bar
I love the entrepreneur mindset!
I’d be a full time dreamer.
what does being a dreamer mean to you?
No plan, there was not option.
No backdoor? LOVE IT
Ahhh learning something new everyday!
I have a side project as a graphic designer, maybe I'll make it a single branch 😂
I'll open 🍕 shop.
Love the entrepreneur mindset :D
I'd be a train driver who makes stupid announcements with jingles and fun facts at every station.
I wanted to be a professional baseball player but if I no longer like programming I would like to be teacher for an university.
Probably, a YouTuber spending all my time streaming😁
what does TTRPG GM stand for?
If I can't be a software developer any longer, I'm just going to enjoy my software developer moneys for a few years and hopefully I will have come up with something else I want to do, by the time the moneys run out 😜
I would love to be part of a creative studio that produces animations.
3D modeling and bringing 3D worlds alive seems an exciting opportunity!
That is probably the career I would most probably choose.
What is your second option? What would you do?
looking at all the things I'm good at, I think it's safe to say if programming wasn't a thing, I'd be living under a bridge -_-
Nice to bring out a hot topic! I will be running a cafe with friends and probably later on open a bar as we love talking over drinks. 😃
I'm not a software dev, but probably I'm going to so if I need to choose another it would be translation and interpretation
Maybe a designer, animator, writer, content creator or artist.
