Best Dell Gaming Monitor Settings — S, G and AW Series Guide

Dell's gaming monitor lineup spans the budget-friendly S series, the mid-range G series, and the premium Alienware (AW) range. All share a similar OSD structure, which makes it straightforward to apply settings across models.

Picture Mode

Start with Game mode. It disables most of Dell's image processing and gives you a clean baseline. The Custom mode works too but leaves some processing active depending on the model.

Preset Color

Under the Color menu, set Preset Color to Custom Color and adjust RGB manually. For close to 6500K:

  • R: 100, G: 97, B: 93 on most Dell panels

This is more accurate than the built-in Warm preset, which varies by model.

Response Time

Dell calls this Response Time with options: Normal, Fast, Super Fast.

  • Fast — correct for most G and S series IPS panels
  • Super Fast — sometimes introduces overshoot on S series models. Test by moving a window quickly on a dark background and checking for halos
  • Alienware OLED models — leave at Normal, OLED response is handled internally

Brightness and Contrast

Brightness — Factory default is 75 on most Dell monitors. Appropriate for a standard room. Dark rooms benefit from 25–40.

Contrast — 75 default is fine. Dell's contrast implementation is conservative and does not clip as aggressively as some other brands at high values.

Sharpness

Set to 50 on the 0–100 scale. Dell's sharpness algorithm at values above 50 adds visible ringing around text and fine lines.

Dark Stabilizer

Available on G and Alienware series. Brightens dark areas without affecting the overall exposure. A value of 5–7 on a 0–20 scale is useful for games with dark environments.

AMD FreeSync / G-Sync Compatible

Enable FreeSync in the Dell OSD. Alienware monitors with G-Sync modules work natively with Nvidia. Most G series monitors are G-Sync Compatible — enable this in Nvidia Control Panel.

Alienware-Specific: AlienFX Lighting

Disable or set to a static color if frame rate stability is important to you. The RGB controller can add a small amount of background CPU usage on some systems.
