Starting with Android development can feel challenging when you're still getting familiar with Activities, Intents, and other fundamental concepts. During my Android Basics internship at Valentius Kryptix, I got the opportunity to put these concepts into practice by building a native Android application.
In this article, I want to share a little about my project, the learning process, and what I gained from this experience.
🚀 The Project: A Native Android Application
My assigned task was to develop a native Android application with three separate Activities connected using Intents, along with a RecyclerView-based list screen.
The goal was to build a foundation app that could be extended with additional features throughout the Android development track.
Although these concepts are fundamental to Android development, implementing them in a working application helped me understand their practical importance.
🛠️ What I Learned
While working on this project, I explored three important Android development concepts:
1. Activities
Activities represent individual screens in an Android application. Working with three separate Activities helped me understand how an application can be divided into different screens, each serving a specific purpose.
2. Intents
Intents allow different Android components to communicate with each other. I learned how to use them to navigate between Activities and connect the different screens of my application.
3. RecyclerView
RecyclerView is used to display lists of items efficiently. Implementing a RecyclerView-based screen gave me practical experience with displaying list data in an organized way.
Together, these components helped me understand the basic structure of a native Android application.
📚 Learning Through YouTube Tutorials
Since I was still learning the basics, I used YouTube tutorials as my primary learning resource while completing the project.
Whenever I encountered a problem or struggled to understand a concept, I revisited the tutorials, followed the steps, and tried to understand how everything worked.
This experience taught me that learning development is not always about knowing everything beforehand. Sometimes, it means researching, experimenting, fixing mistakes, and gradually building confidence.
✅ Project Completion
I'm happy to share that I successfully completed my assigned task. Seeing the application work as expected was rewarding because I could finally connect the concepts I had learned with a practical project.
This experience has strengthened my understanding of Android fundamentals and encouraged me to keep exploring mobile app development.

💡 Final Thoughts
This project was a valuable step in my Android development journey. I'm looking forward to learning more, building new projects, and improving my skills through hands-on practice.
Every project is an opportunity to learn something new, and this was a great place for me to start!
