Secure October Day 6: What delete actually deletes

Secure October, Day 6: what delete actually deletes. In most apps 'delete' removes the message from your view; copies persist in backups, caches and the other device. Gone should mean gone. In VEIL, threads burn and a conversation can be hard-deleted from both devices at once, from either side. #SecureOctober

Backups are where delete usually breaks, because restoring a snapshot quietly brings deleted threads back. Hard delete on both devices is great, but notification previews and OS keyboard caches can still hold fragments. How do you handle the case where the other device is offline for weeks when the burn is triggered?
