WeCoded 2023
A Celebration of Gender Equity in Software Development
WeCoded is a celebration of individuals who are underrepresented and otherwise marginalized in software development on the basis of gender: including women, transgender, nonbinary, gender-nonconforming, and two-spirit individuals.
This event is a commitment to an evolving conversation that began five years ago on DEV with SheCoded. Like SheCoded, WeCoded coincides with International Women's Day (IWD), which is held annually on March 8, and WeCoded aligns with IWD's focus on gender equality, diversity, and inclusivity.
This year, DEV is creating a space for our community to share stories, knowledge, questions, creative expressions, and more that speak to our individual journeys, setbacks, triumphs, and lessons. WeCoded is as much a retrospective and a look back on the varied paths that brought us here as it is a love letter to a more equitable and diverse future in technology.
Collective activism drives change. This activism is reflective of our Code of Conduct, Company Pledge, and Community Standards. Our goal at DEV is to create a harassment-free, inclusive experience for all.

Here's How You Can Participate
Share Your Experiences or Join the Conversation
Check out the “Share your story” section below and contribute to the conversation by selecting one of the prompts…or make your own! Please be kind and supportive of each other. Take responsibility for your words, think before you speak, avoid hypotheticals and “devil's advocate” arguments.
Don't forget to join us for a very special WeCoded meetup on Friday, March 10, 2023, at noon PT. We'll be assembling on Discord for a roundtable discussion and Q&A moderated by three of our Community Members: Brian (they/them), Rachel (they/them), and Caroline (she/her).
Add Your Pronouns to Your Profile
As part of our commitment to gender equity, we have added the feature to share your pronouns in your basic profile information. We hope this feature will help create an inclusive environment where people feel comfortable being their authentic selves. However, please note that providing false or misleading information in your profile may violate our Code of Conduct and could lead to disciplinary action.
Shop WeCoded Merchs
To celebrate this event, we are launching a new WeCoded merch collection in the Forem Shop featuring apparel and accessories that showcase support for our mission to build a more inclusive future for tech. The lineup includes WeCoded sticker packs, pronoun sticker sheets, caps, t-shirts, and other items. Check out the WeCoded 2023 collection here so you can represent our community and mission in style.
Support Organizations That Promote Gender Diversity in Tech
In an effort to bring awareness to and connect the DEV community with tech affinity groups and organizations that support women, transgender, nonbinary, gender-nonconforming, and two-spirit tech professionals, DEV will donate all proceeds from WeCoded merchandise sold during the event to the following 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations:
