For the last 2.5 years, I've been building Work-Break—a productivity platform designed to help individuals and teams manage work breaks, tasks, meetings, leave requests, and Google Calendar sync.
Like many side projects, it started with a simple idea. Over time, it evolved into a full platform with an AI assistant, web application, Android app, and integrations that I use and continue to improve.
As the project grew, I realised something important.
Building the software wasn't the hardest part.
Maintaining it, improving it, and earning users' trust were.
Since Work-Break handles productivity data, I wanted people to have complete transparency. I didn't want anyone to wonder how their data was being handled or whether they could customise the platform for their own needs.
So I made the decision to open-source the entire project.
Why Open Source?
There were a few reasons behind the decision:
Transparency builds trust.
Developers can review the code before using the platform.
Anyone can self-host it if they prefer.
Contributors can fix bugs, improve the UI, and add new features.
The project can continue growing beyond what one developer can build alone.

The Next Goal
I'm not looking for customers right now as much as I'm looking for a community.
I'd love to see developers contribute ideas, improve existing features, and build new integrations such as Slack, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Teams, or anything else that makes the platform more useful.
I've spent the last 2.5 years building this project, but I believe its future shouldn't depend on one person.
If a community forms around it, Work-Break can become a productivity platform that individuals, startups, and small teams can use for free for years to come.
