🌐 Public vs. Private IP: The Two Faces of Network Addressing
How do devices inside your home network communicate locally while still accessing the global internet? Through a combination of Private and Public IPs.
Here are the key points:
🔹 1. Private IP (Local Identification)
Assigned by your local router to devices inside your home or office (e.g., 192.168.x.x).
Valid only within your local network (LAN) and used for internal communication.
🔹 2. Public IP (Global Identification)
Assigned by your Internet Service Provider (ISP) like Jio or Airtel.
Completely unique across the entire global internet (WAN) so servers know where to send your data.
🔹 3. How They Work Together (NAT)
NAT (Network Address Translation): Allows dozens of devices sharing a single router to use Private IPs locally while translating outgoing traffic to the router's single Public IP.
🚀 Think of your private IP as a hotel room number (e.g., Room 101) for internal routing, while your public IP is the hotel's main postal address known to the outside world!
