If you run SEO for a B2B SaaS product, here is the budget question for 2026: are you still funding a 2021 content strategy?
Long-form blogs and generic "What is X?" or "term vs. term" pages were built to capture cold traffic, and AI search has changed their economics.
What changed in SEO and AI search
Google's AI Overviews and ChatGPT answer basic questions without a visit to your site. Ahrefs reported a 58% lower average CTR for top-ranking pages when AI Overviews appeared.
Informational content is not completely dead, but traffic alone no longer justifies the investment.
Enterprise buyers research specific technical, integration, security and procurement constraints, which often show "zero search volume" in SEO tools.
Play 1: multi-constraint micro-ICP pages
Build around real combinations of infrastructure, integrations, deployment and compliance requirements instead of generic "Solutions for Fintech" pages.
Example: connecting on-premises financial data to Snowflake while addressing EU data residency and DORA requirements. Maybe 15 visits a month, but potentially more qualified than 1,000 generic visits.
The goal is solving specific buyer problems, not generating endless keyword combinations.
Play 2: buying-committee deal-blocker pages
Security, IT, Legal and Procurement can delay or block a purchase. Address their due-diligence questions:
- Data residency and retention policies
- Deployment and network architecture
- SOC 2 coverage and subprocessors
- RBAC capabilities and limitations
- Integration security requirements
Your website should help your champion get the deal approved.
Play 3: implementation and operational proof
Turn implementation knowledge into searchable assets:
- Sanitized webhook payloads
- Tested Terraform configurations
- Step-by-step migration workflows
- Integration architecture diagrams
- Operational runbooks
What about middle-of-funnel (MoFu) content?
Use MoFu content to answer complex evaluation questions, demonstrate expertise, help buyers compare solutions and earn AI-search citations where possible.
The shift in SEO and GEO
From ToFu to BoFu (bottom-of-funnel) assets, and from optimizing for search volume to optimizing for qualified demand and buying confidence.
Are you still seeing agencies pitch the old glossary playbook?
