Meet Modi: An AI-Powered Learning Assistant Built for Students

Introducing Modi

Your learning. Your pieces. Your path.

We're building Modi, an AI-powered learning assistant within Modupath, with a simple idea in mind: explore how artificial intelligence can make learning more accessible, interactive, and organised for students.

Modi is a project created by Akintayo Mofeoluwa Richard, a young software developer passionate about AI, education, and building useful technology.

Why Modi?

Learning doesn't always happen in a classroom. Sometimes, students need another way to explore a topic, ask questions, practise what they've learned, or organise their study activities.

Modi is being developed to explore how AI-powered assistance and digital learning tools can support those needs.

Building with Technology

Modi brings together modern web technologies and AI services. Its development involves JavaScript, Node.js, Firebase, and Groq-powered AI services.

Building an educational application also means thinking about more than AI responses. The experience, reliability, authentication, data handling, and usefulness of the features all matter.

We're continuing to improve the project as development progresses.

Our Vision

Our goal is to explore technology that helps students take a more active role in their learning.

Modi is an ongoing project, and we want to keep learning, improving, and building based on real needs and useful feedback.

What would make an AI learning assistant genuinely useful to you as a student?

Nice one! As someone also studying while building, I get this. Tutorials make everything look smooth, but my own projects taught me how to sit with an error message for an hour and actually read it instead of panicking. Good luck with Modi, I’ll be following along

Thank you! I can relate to that. Building projects teaches you things tutorials sometimes don't, especially learning how to understand errors and work through problems yourself. I'm still learning as I build Modi, and I'm looking forward to improving it along the way. Wishing you the best with your own projects too! πŸš€

exactly, tutorials just always seemed to put me in a learning loop where i got stuck with repetitive stuff and not actually learning anything. All the best with Modi i will be watching from here!

Thank you, I get what you mean. Building Modi has taught me a lot because when something breaks, I have to understand what's actually going wrong. Still learning, but I'll keep building.

akintayo, this is a fantastic initiative. building ai tools specifically for the student experience is exactly where the technology can have the most positive, real-world impact.

to answer your question on what makes an ai learning assistant genuinely useful, here are the three things that matter most to students:

  1. guided discovery over direct answers: the best assistants don't just spit out the final code or essay. they act like a real tutorβ€”pointing out why an error occurred and asking a guiding question to help the student arrive at the solution themselves. it prevents cheating and actually builds long-term understanding.
  2. frictionless, lightweight access: students often use older devices, budget phones, or have limited data plans. an assistant that loads instantly in the browser without heavy framework bloat or complex, multi-step logins will see massively higher adoption.
  3. contextual progress tracking: remembering what concepts the student struggled with in previous sessions and gently adapting the explanations to their specific learning pace.

the combination of groq's blazing speed and firebase's real-time capabilities is a brilliant stack for this. excited to see how modi evolves. keep building! πŸ―πŸ“š

Thanks, Harun! I really appreciate these suggestions. I especially like the idea of guiding students towards answers instead of always giving them the solution directly. I also want Modi to work well for students using less powerful devices. I'll keep these points in mind as I continue developing it. Thanks for the encouragement! πŸš€

akintayo, you are very welcome! building for students on less powerful devices is a massive and underserved market, so you are already on the right path.

if you ever want to bounce ideas around or need a second pair of eyes on the UX friction points, just drop a link. excited to see modi grow. keep building! πŸ―πŸš€

Hi Harun! Thank you for the encouragement. I really appreciate your willingness to share ideas and review Modi.

I'm building Modi to make AI-powered learning more accessible to students, including those using less powerful devices. I'd love to get your feedback on the UX and discover where I can make the experience simpler, faster, and more useful for students.

Here is the project: modupath-modi.vercel.app/app

If you have time to explore it, I'd be grateful for your honest feedback. Thank you again! πŸš€
