⭐Excitement!
I've had had stores on Shopify, and a successful Etsy store. But after years of ups and downs and general nonsense, I'm done living by someone else's standards. I wanted to build my own fully functional shop. It had been thrown on the backburner for a long time. Today -- I present a working Ecommerce site built by yours truley!
Integrations:
- Stripe
- Cloudflare
- Gorgeously simple admin dashboard that is clear and makes sense
- A small art gallery to represent myself as an artist (only a few pictures for now)
- Product uploads from varying places (like excel 2003, smh)
I've ran it through basic SEO tests to make sure I'm not totally failing.
It's live. It will accept payments!

I’m new to your post, just curious about the backend, did you build it yourself or do you use a headless CMS, or something different?
Frontend is hosted on my server, and backend uses neon. I have become a fan of neon over the last year or so. It's so fast and the setup is very straightforward. I have a custom admin dashboard in an undisclosed location. I get blips on sentry when something goes awry, I have GoodJob setup, and receive pings in my discord server when a sale is made. I love that sentry is still firing away on my server from the last dev challenge I did. It's telling me about myself, I got about 5 emails after first deployment. That is both awesome and not awesome at the same time 😂🤷♀️😶🌫️

Shopify cho bạn toàn quyền kiểm soát data, checkout, subscription logic, nhưng cũng đồng nghĩa tự lo hosting, PCI compliance, webhook reliability, rate limit khi scale. Etsy thì ngược lại: opionated marketplace, SEO built-in, nhưng bạn bị khóa chặt trong walled garden, khó build brand identity riêng, và fee structure thay đổi bất ngờ.
Điều thú vị là lúc nào dev team quyết định "live again" — thường là khi technical debt từ custom Shopify apps (liquid hack, private apps deprecated, GraphQL migration) chồng chất đến mức cost of ownership > cost of rebuild. Hoặc khi cần multi-channel inventory sync real-time mà Shopify Flow / webhook không đáp ứng được latency requirement.
Bài học thực tế: đừng over-engineer early stage. Một monolith Next.js + Postgres + Stripe + webhook handler tự build thường đủ cho 0-50k orders/tháng, dễ debug, dễ test, dễ migrate sau này. Chỉ tách microservices khi team size > 10 và bounded contexts rõ rệt.
