how do you get real-world experience before your first job?

hello ! im a CS student (2nd year) and ive been look around for some tech jobs. any kind because honestly i just want a tech related job (i <3 tech). but the problem is,so many jobs/places want you to have experience in the real-world but literally no one is willing to offer it. they want minimum 3-years experience. im considered learning some other programming languages that they require for jobs that could be useful. however, i want to practice what ive learnt in a real job setting. of course after learning a lot about said-subject. but im just confused on how im going to land a job after college with no experience.

and please dont come for me; im genuinely just trying to think ahead instead of leaving it for when i get there

any advice would be appreciated !! :p

Hey Arianna! :D

Hope you are well. I was hoping if there is a field that interest you? In this current market, recruiters are looking for specialist than anything. For example, a person can be an expert in full stack or an expert in back end. What field do you want to be an expert in?

With that said, to get experience, open source is a great option. I would recommend contributing to Forem (that powers dev.to) to begin with! It doesn't have to be a new feature, it can be a simple UI/UX change (such as changing the z-index). That is how I started being a contributor and It gains experience since you are working with others devs like me! Imagine, a sentence on your resume that says "Contributing to changing the UI/UX of the blogging platform that enhance accessibility and user experience to 3+ million users".

Hope this helps. Was wondering about if you have a portfolio so that we can all see what you currently have and go from there!
