Rubyist Hangout Thread

Hey folks, this is a weekly hangout thread.

This is an area for Rubyists to discuss Ruby, but since Ruby is 28 years old, and things don't change so quickly, this is also just a hangout thread for Rubyists to share whatever you feel like within our community guidelines.

So what's up this week?

I do think these threads will do best with some of the more popular languages. cc @erinao @michaeltharrington

JavaScript probably has the best bet at being a useful weekly thread.

Hey Calin, we'd love for you to help us create some language-themed threads if you're up for it. You can model your own after this one!

Hmmmm.
A not bad idea, but the only reason I haven't tried such a thing is because I know it probably wouldn't get as many views. (Not like the posts were getting much traction to begin with. - As @ben said, other languages might hit a gold-vein.)

Let's say someone hasn't touched Ruby since ~2011, is there a solid starting point for coming back into the fold in terms of ecosystem?
