I got tired of paying $49/mo for proposal & contract SaaS, so I built a client-side 4-in-1 B2B Proposal, Quote, Contract & Invoice Studio

Every time I took on a freelance software build, consulting sprint, or agency project, I ran into the same frustrating admin tax:

  1. Write a Scope of Work / Proposal in Google Docs or Notion.
  2. Re-type the exact same line items into a Quote / Estimate spreadsheet so the client could compare pricing options.
  3. Copy-paste the deliverables and payment milestones again into an MSA / SOW Legal Contract template.
  4. Copy-paste them a fourth time into an Invoice generator just to collect the 50% deposit.

Or pay $49–$65/month forever ($588+/year) for bloated proposal SaaS platforms just to send 2–4 client documents a month.

Instead of maintaining four separate files that drift out of sync every time a client asks for a scope tweak, ScopeForge uses a single reactive JSON project model that renders four distinct views instantaneously:

  1. Executive Proposal: Problem statement, Scope of Work, Deliverables table, Project Timeline & Milestones, Acceptance Criteria, and a live Investment Summary.
  2. Interactive 3-Tier Quote:
    • Good / Better / Best package multipliers (1.0x Essential, 1.35x Recommended Growth, 1.75x Enterprise Turnkey) so clients compare your tiers against each other instead of haggling on your base rate.
    • Interactive Optional Add-On Checkboxes (OPT badge) that let clients toggle add-on modules (like 24/7 Priority SLA, Rush Turnaround, or Extra Revision Rounds) and watch the Sticky Live Totals Bar update in real time.
  3. MSA / SOW Legal Contract:
    • Auto-injects your active line items, total contract value, and milestone split (50/25/25, 50/50, 100% Upfront, or Net 30) directly into a 9-section Master Services Agreement.
    • Toggleable protective clauses: IP Transfer strictly upon final payment, 1.5%/mo Late Fee Interest, Strict Change Order Protection, 14-Day Deemed Acceptance, Non-Solicitation, and Limitation of Liability capped at fees paid.
    • Dual HTML5 Canvas E-Signature Pads (Draw with mouse/touch or Type-to-Sign cursive signature) that embed directly into the exported contract.
  4. Milestone Tax Invoice:
    • Itemized table with automatic Subtotal, Discount, Optional Add-Ons, Tax %, Deposit Due Now, and Balance Schedule, plus payment instructions (ACH / Wire / Stripe / Zelle) and 3-stage follow-up email templates.

🛠️ Under the Hood: How Day-1 Community Feedback Shaped the Architecture

After sharing an early build earlier today, two pieces of developer feedback led to immediate architectural upgrades:

1. < 0.2ms Surgical DOM Totals Recalculation

Initially, toggling an optional line item or editing a rate triggered a full renderAll() pass across both the form controls and preview panes. While fast (~12ms), re-rendering the entire DOM on every keystroke or checkbox toggle isn't ideal.

I refactored the state engine to separate structural mutations from numeric recalculation using a surgical updateCalculatedTotalsOnly() path:

  • Toggling any optional add-on checkbox (either in the editor list or directly inside the live document preview) recalculates computeTotals() and surgically updates only the specific DOM nodes (#live-totals-card, line-item row totals, .doc-totals summary box, and the Proposal Investment Table) in < 0.2ms with zero layout thrash.

2. Built-In Local-First Client Portal (📁 Client Portal)

Freelancers and agencies managing multiple active deals asked for a way to organize documents by client without needing a cloud database login.

I built a persistent Client Portal Drawer backed by localStorage (scopeforge_saved_workspaces_v1) that:

  • Automatically groups saved Proposals, Quotes, Contracts, and Invoices by Client Name / Company.
  • Tracks deal pipeline status (Draft, Sent, Approved, Paid) with instant status badges and total pipeline value rollups per client.
  • Lets you clone any scope into a new iteration or export/import full .scopeforge.json workspace backups.
