Hey all!
My name is Jonny and I'm a well-travelled backend software engineer currently based in Paris, France, having previously worked in Canada, Brazil, Ireland, and the UK.
The majority of my experience has been on the Microsoft stack with C# and Azure, from working on productivity software to the AAA games industry. In the past year, though, I made the switch to Django Python with a bit of Ruby on Rails thrown in for good measure.
I'm really looking forward to learning from/discussing with you all on a variety of topics like software architecture and the latest ideas in software development, and hopefully even contribute myself!
Feel free to drop me a message if you'd like to connect, collaborate, or just generally bounce ideas off of!

Hi there!
My name is Ala, I'm a Frontend Developer based in Berlin, Germany. I've been self-learning programming for around a year and during this journey I've found out that I really enjoy this type of problem-solving. Seeing an app/ a programme start working piece by piece, is a very gratifying experience. I am currently beginning to look for my first job in the field, as I've previously studied architectural engineering and worked in the field for some time.
My main stack is React, Typescript, TailwindCSS and Jest / React Testing Library for testing.
I am looking forward to connecting with the community, as self-learning is quite a solo experience and it's nice to talk to others about programming. I also hope that I can contribute to the community myself!
Cheers,
Ala
Welcome Ala!
Hello, my name is Emmanuel De La Paz. I want to learn about the fascinating and wonderful world of programming. Currently, I am focused on the fundamentals of Python, and I am learning about the fastai library and deep learning.
I want to continue learning more and refine my knowledge here on Dev.to. I know it's a great community where we always strive to learn and share knowledge with anyone who seeks it.
I am at the service of anyone who needs me, and you can also visit my space to learn, just like I do. Thanks to everyone.
Welcome everyone!
Hey everybody! Super excited to join this community 😁 my name is David, I’m 25 and I’m a self taught software developer. Over the last two years I’ve been teaching myself programming, mostly learning Java and C# for the backend, Vue and Angular + Vanilla counterparts for the front end, and Postgres for databases. When I first started out though, it was with The Odin Project so RoR was my first deep dive into a serious language.
Over the last five years I’ve actually spent my time running a band in Denver, Colorado and it’s been an amazing experience but over COVID - like a lot of people, I ended up learning a bit more about myself and realized that my true passion lies in software development. I’ve always been super interested in tech but never had the confidence to really dive into it up until recently.
In the last month I’ve decided to start my career search and am hoping to make a career transition into a junior software development role! A little bit about my history, being a musician I’ve spent a lot of time in the retail space but for the majority of my life I’ve actually helped my family run a jewelry business back in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. My father is a Ukrainian immigrant who started the business with his father and I’ve gained tons of valuable business experience being around it my whole life, watching him repair watches and jewelry also sparked an artistic interest in me which leads to the later chapter of my life.
At 19 I moved to Denver with a couple of friends to make a career out of our band! (Angsty teens right 🤣) I ended up with a life changing experience that I wouldn’t trade for the world, we played shows all around the state, did a small tour, even got signed and it gave me a really great appreciation for life and the value that comes from keeping your friends close. I’ve learned how to lead (just like the artistry of software dev, it can be challenging to get a bunch of musicians to agree on something 😉), manage personal and professional relationships, how to network, how to market, but most importantly how to collaborate.
That brings me to now. Two years into my journey to become a software developer I’m more confident than I ever have been in how little I know! A project I’m currently working on is attempting to clone twitter from scratch in C# and Angular, it’s definitely been the most informative project I have ever done, learning how to optimize images and store them in a remote database was a crazy challenge. I have a burning desire to find a development team to be on where I can ask questions, be allowed to make mistakes and ask for help, all from people who have been in my shoes. There is so much knowledge to soak up from everyone around me and I’m ready to immerse myself in a like minded community of tech people.
Beyond all of that stuff, I’m a photographer - absolutely love taking pictures of people and doing funky edits, if there’s any other photographers in here let’s edit each other photos! I always love to see how two people will creatively approach the same photo. I love video games, I’m currently losing a lot of hours to Tears of The Kingdom, and the Metroid Prime Remaster on Switch. (Anyone wanna 1v1 on Smash Bros??) I love to explore the crazy nature in Colorado, and I’m a big food guy and love to cook at home - I’ve even been known to make some sushi which is way more complicated than you would think?? I’m super excited to join this group of Ruby developers, make some friends, and talk tech. I can’t wait to meet more of you guys and hope we can have some awesome connections! 😄 I’ll add my LinkedIn below in case anyone wants to connect, if you do just add a little message saying you’re from this Slack group so I know!
Connect with me on LinkedIn!
Hello everyone! 👋👋
This is Marco, a C++ aficionado from Italy!
I work on AI at Tetra Pak 🧃(maybe some of our packages are in your fridge 😃), trying to make our machines a bit smarter! Previously, my C++ served the Ferrari F1 team🏎️ for ~9 years and I put my hands on telemetry and simulation software.
Behind the scenes, I am a 10-year experienced community manager 🥳: I have founded and directed the Italian C++ Community, Coding Gym and ML Modena. I am used to organizing events and meetups every month and sometimes I give talks.
I've been blogging since 2011 and I've just discovered this awesome community!
My experience is mostly on C++, C and C# full stack development, even though I prefer backend and libraries. Recently I worked on C++ real-time image acquisition and computer vision, using things like OpenCV, OnnxRuntime, Eigen, gRPC, and docker for deployment 📦
I am currently working on a new blog series about designing a message passing-styled application in C++ using SObjectizer. I am going to publish the first article this week 🤞
Feel free to drop me a line!

Greetings all!
My name is Trey*. I am a molecular biologist (phd, 30yrs career) changing my career path at this late stage. I start a web development bootcamp at UC Berkeley/Edx soon. My background in web development and coding is minimal. I learned Perl, Javascript, CSS and HTML (20yrs ago!) to help with some research I was doing, but that's it. I loved it. I've decided to move in that direction (and I'm finishing up two books, so keeping busy)
I'm married with two grown daughters and live on the Big Island of Hawaii. I've lived in San Francisco, Germany, Korea, D.C, etc in my long life :). Gardening is a lifelong hobby, astronomy is my new hobby.
Looking forward to learning and this new path!
*Edited to add: Warren is my given name, Trey is a nickname (from being the 'third' Warren after father and grandfather)
Great to have you Warren!

Hello 👋
My name is Octavia. I'm a trans woman and recently graduated college, now working as a software engineer at foursquare. I'm doing full-stack right now but my real passions are more systems levels work, especially with rust right now, and working with hardware.
Currently I'm trying to learn more about the USB spec to build my own game controller. I'm almost entirely self taught, but I have both dyslexia and ADHD so the number of hours in a day where I can really absorb new information is rather limited, couple that with having a full time job now, how dense the information on the USB spec is, and most of my hardware is in a storage unit right now because I'm in between apartments. So the learning USB has been going slowly but I hope here I can start learning more about maybe this topic and others that I have more of a passion for than just full-stack.
Hello Octavia, welcome to DEV!

Hello All,
My name is Bradley and I’m a beginner developer who is still in the entry stages of my coding journey and still learning to perfect my craft. I have been coding for a few months and have solid knowledge on how to code in HTML and CSS as well as some basic knowledge to code in JavaScript. I’m looking to improve my skills even further so that someday soon I will be able to actually work as a front end developer. I’m coming up at a point where I’m growing even more confident with JS and I’m looking to get exposure to more advanced versions of the language such as ReactJS and hopefully communicate with other developers along the way to help me improve and bestow on me any advice they may have!
Welcome, @bradleygamage! I encourage you to keep digging in JS. Once you’re comfortable with that, it may be fun to look into other things which make up the fundamentals of our craft.
Good skills to learn:
I’d also recommend checking out #Hacktoberfest, there’s a lot of fun to be had.

My name is Matuka and I've just joined the EdX Front End Developer Bootcamp 😃. I completed a Masters in Physics about 10 years ago, but never found a passionate career, so did a lot of travelling around Australia, New Zealand and Asia instead!
I have been dabbling in Javascript, HTML, CSS for quite a few years now and recently learned the basics of React, Node, Express and Mongo! I do love it, but honestly sometimes its a battle with that Imposter Syndrome. I'll be giving it everything I have for the course of the Bootcamp and beyond!
I've never been part of a community, so not sure what exactly I'm supposed to do here! But Howdy! 🤠

Hello All -
My name is Leyla. I have an accounting/finance background but have more recently been intrigued with web development and coding. I recently participated in a system conversion that introduced me to the endless possibilities that exist in these two areas. This project gave me the extra push I needed to start a web development bootcamp course with UCLA/Edx, and which is how I was introduced to this platform. I'm excited to be here and to be going down this new path in my career.
Hey there! I'm Leesa! Part of my class requirements is to join the Dev community, both to connect and promote my own growth as a web developer. I'm very new to the professional side of things (going to attend classes starting October), but I've always been interested in Web Development. As a giant nerd and a child of the 21st century, I've been perpetually online in forum circles since I was young, so I at least know how some of this stuff works. Here's to hoping I don't make a fool of myself too badly!
Hello fellow developers.
I am a solo data analyst, and machine learning engineer whi is still building his career.
Being solo has its good and bad sides. It forced me to learn deeper and wider and through mistakes but it slowed me down, and so it is not good for my career. I need teams to associate with and that is why I came here.
I hope to contribute to your developments in the data science and ML fields, and to share my experience, to learn from yours. Thank you.

Hello,
I have started coding when I was 14. I started because there was a thing in a game that I didn't like and I wanted to change. So I learned how and I did.
It was a an MMO called "Tales of Pirates".
Started with C++ and LUA. Learned mostly by examples and doing.
If a topic was interesting or I felt "I can do better". I generally learned and did it for just that one thing.
I was selected by my country for this high school level to present it in a international coding competition in 2011 and 2012 called the IoI ( international Olympia of informatics)
Solve puzzles with coding 🤷. I don't know what I was getting my self into. They prepared by teaching us from scratch, so I already knew how to code. My teammates were toxic/cocky. They kept saying I was dumb, going to dishonor the country because I was taking it lightly and having fun. I got 40~ points out of 300 the first day... I asked my teammates how much they got because I noticed they got kinda quite after.
All of them got 0 (Zero). I was the only one to score anything and I was told this was the 2nd highest score our country got. I learned I was "the best of the worse" LMAO.
It was a high passion but stopped when I went to university for it. I had 2 major switches before I decided "hey, maybe I should do what I know already?"
It was a waste imo. I didn't learn much from what I already knew beside the very high level stuff. Like schedulers, how memory works, how memory can be manipulated, how CPU works and what it does etc...
Everything else was self taught because had an interest.
I am getting more into it, kept seeing dev.to pop up on my Google feed and it kept me interested. So I decided to join, to keep keeping my Interest if that makes sense.
I have my foot in most things sadly, Game design, Game programming/modding, AI/ML, Full stack web-dev, reverse engineering, competitive coding, Database management and data science. I don't know this website does any huga of death. But this is something I have been working on skarner-racing.up.railway.app/
I like interesting ^_^
Hope to keep being here.

Hiya👋
I'm a huge tech and F.O.S.S. enthusiast who leans torwards tech like blockchain, web3, cloud computing, ai, devops, linux admin, ethical hacking, bug hunting, penetration testing and such. I'm not a professional in these but have a love for them, some skillz and have been honing said skillzzzz the last 2 years. Over the last year tho I've been more interested in building instead of breaking :x, so I've been overhauling my javascript, html and python knowledge.
I'm currently searching for my first real tech job and would appreciate any guidance, I've mostly been a freelancer so it's a new experience and i guess I'm still trying to find my way. I discovered this community after downloading dev.daily and would love to make some new developer frens, learn from you guys and teach anyone anything I know that they don't :)
Hello everyone, I'm a coding newbie just starting out in bootcamp having dabbled a little in front end languages after being made redundant and although I am employed again I'm really keen to learn new skills and I hope pursue a new career

AI is not the biggest threat to programming jobs; rather, it's a tool that can enhance productivity. AI excels at automating repetitive tasks, freeing up developers to focus on complex and creative aspects of software development. Instead of replacing human expertise, AI complements it, allowing for faster and more efficient workflows. Embracing AI tools can make programmers more valuable, not less.

My name is Olaide Emmanuel, and a FE developer who loves writing code to solve complex problems. I am resident in Lagos, Nigeria and currently looking to connect so as to learn, grow and also impact others.
I am well versed with using ReactJs and NextJS, but cant do without using TypeScript, currently learning how to code with Python right now and can do some backend functionalities using ExpressJs, while working with React Native has afforded me the skill to do mobile development.
I am currently learning Data Structure and Algorithm and I will really love to document my learning, so every week, I will certainly try my best to drop an article here on DSA, JS, and Python.
I am certainly looking to learn, collaborate with you all on various software engineering, software development practices and latest invention as it relates to start-up because I also plan to have a start up soon.
Gracias....
Hello from Sweden, wanted to start a blog somewhere and a site was too cumbersome to make for just a blog where i can talk about my future journey.
I aim to learn the Godot Engine, Github and Clip Studio Paint for the time being,
i have dabbled on game making all the way from 2012 but have never really done anything creative about it, besides watching countless video tutorials and documented tutorials.
Everything from GameMaker 1, Godot, Unity, RPG Maker, Clickteam Fusion and alot more.
The Same goes for art programs, not so much music.
Have a good one!
