Jonny Ray

Hey all!

My name is Jonny and I'm a well-travelled backend software engineer currently based in Paris, France, having previously worked in Canada, Brazil, Ireland, and the UK.

The majority of my experience has been on the Microsoft stack with C# and Azure, from working on productivity software to the AAA games industry. In the past year, though, I made the switch to Django Python with a bit of Ruby on Rails thrown in for good measure.

I'm really looking forward to learning from/discussing with you all on a variety of topics like software architecture and the latest ideas in software development, and hopefully even contribute myself!

Feel free to drop me a message if you'd like to connect, collaborate, or just generally bounce ideas off of!

Hi there!

My name is Ala, I'm a Frontend Developer based in Berlin, Germany. I've been self-learning programming for around a year and during this journey I've found out that I really enjoy this type of problem-solving. Seeing an app/ a programme start working piece by piece, is a very gratifying experience. I am currently beginning to look for my first job in the field, as I've previously studied architectural engineering and worked in the field for some time.

My main stack is React, Typescript, TailwindCSS and Jest / React Testing Library for testing.

I am looking forward to connecting with the community, as self-learning is quite a solo experience and it's nice to talk to others about programming. I also hope that I can contribute to the community myself!

Cheers,
Ala

Emmanuel De La Paz

Hello, my name is Emmanuel De La Paz. I want to learn about the fascinating and wonderful world of programming. Currently, I am focused on the fundamentals of Python, and I am learning about the fastai library and deep learning.

I want to continue learning more and refine my knowledge here on Dev.to. I know it's a great community where we always strive to learn and share knowledge with anyone who seeks it.

I am at the service of anyone who needs me, and you can also visit my space to learn, just like I do. Thanks to everyone.

Hey everybody! Super excited to join this community 😁 my name is David, I’m 25 and I’m a self taught software developer. Over the last two years I’ve been teaching myself programming, mostly learning Java and C# for the backend, Vue and Angular + Vanilla counterparts for the front end, and Postgres for databases. When I first started out though, it was with The Odin Project so RoR was my first deep dive into a serious language.

Over the last five years I’ve actually spent my time running a band in Denver, Colorado and it’s been an amazing experience but over COVID - like a lot of people, I ended up learning a bit more about myself and realized that my true passion lies in software development. I’ve always been super interested in tech but never had the confidence to really dive into it up until recently.

In the last month I’ve decided to start my career search and am hoping to make a career transition into a junior software development role! A little bit about my history, being a musician I’ve spent a lot of time in the retail space but for the majority of my life I’ve actually helped my family run a jewelry business back in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. My father is a Ukrainian immigrant who started the business with his father and I’ve gained tons of valuable business experience being around it my whole life, watching him repair watches and jewelry also sparked an artistic interest in me which leads to the later chapter of my life.

At 19 I moved to Denver with a couple of friends to make a career out of our band! (Angsty teens right 🤣) I ended up with a life changing experience that I wouldn’t trade for the world, we played shows all around the state, did a small tour, even got signed and it gave me a really great appreciation for life and the value that comes from keeping your friends close. I’ve learned how to lead (just like the artistry of software dev, it can be challenging to get a bunch of musicians to agree on something 😉), manage personal and professional relationships, how to network, how to market, but most importantly how to collaborate.

That brings me to now. Two years into my journey to become a software developer I’m more confident than I ever have been in how little I know! A project I’m currently working on is attempting to clone twitter from scratch in C# and Angular, it’s definitely been the most informative project I have ever done, learning how to optimize images and store them in a remote database was a crazy challenge. I have a burning desire to find a development team to be on where I can ask questions, be allowed to make mistakes and ask for help, all from people who have been in my shoes. There is so much knowledge to soak up from everyone around me and I’m ready to immerse myself in a like minded community of tech people.

Beyond all of that stuff, I’m a photographer - absolutely love taking pictures of people and doing funky edits, if there’s any other photographers in here let’s edit each other photos! I always love to see how two people will creatively approach the same photo. I love video games, I’m currently losing a lot of hours to Tears of The Kingdom, and the Metroid Prime Remaster on Switch. (Anyone wanna 1v1 on Smash Bros??) I love to explore the crazy nature in Colorado, and I’m a big food guy and love to cook at home - I’ve even been known to make some sushi which is way more complicated than you would think?? I’m super excited to join this group of Ruby developers, make some friends, and talk tech. I can’t wait to meet more of you guys and hope we can have some awesome connections! 😄 I’ll add my LinkedIn below in case anyone wants to connect, if you do just add a little message saying you’re from this Slack group so I know!

Connect with me on LinkedIn!

Marco Arena

Hello everyone! 👋👋
This is Marco, a C++ aficionado from Italy!

I work on AI at Tetra Pak 🧃(maybe some of our packages are in your fridge 😃), trying to make our machines a bit smarter! Previously, my C++ served the Ferrari F1 team🏎️ for ~9 years and I put my hands on telemetry and simulation software.

Behind the scenes, I am a 10-year experienced community manager 🥳: I have founded and directed the Italian C++ Community, Coding Gym and ML Modena. I am used to organizing events and meetups every month and sometimes I give talks.

I've been blogging since 2011 and I've just discovered this awesome community!

My experience is mostly on C++, C and C# full stack development, even though I prefer backend and libraries. Recently I worked on C++ real-time image acquisition and computer vision, using things like OpenCV, OnnxRuntime, Eigen, gRPC, and docker for deployment 📦

I am currently working on a new blog series about designing a message passing-styled application in C++ using SObjectizer. I am going to publish the first article this week 🤞

Feel free to drop me a line!
