Let's take an adventurous trip🗺🗻

What would it be like if everyone in this Dev community had the opportunity to go on an adventure trip together?
I do not know if this will happen!

But what if everyone at the company you work for had the opportunity to make a six-month trip (the full cost would be borne by your company)

  • What kind of journey would you like to embark on?

  • What kind of places would you go to?

  • Or tell me about it if you've ever been on a trip and I'm eager to get to know them 🤩

I think the best version of this is embarking on a shared challenge — perhaps a hike of sorts (though I don't think it should be a challenge limited to the able-bodied).

So with that in mind, I feel like the best adventure for the DEV Community, would be a retreat to an island to take part in a boat-building challenge. Everyone is divided up and provided material for a complex full-on boating challenge. Teams would be made up of randomly selected groups where everyone gets to take part and provide their talents and skills to the challenge.

Hi Ben. Have you ever had experience building a boat?

I don't know how to build the boat, but I watched the episode of "Mav vs Wild" Bear Grylls 👀🗺

I have not — but I think it could be an interesting challenge. I have, however, constructed an "ice boat" as a team-building challenge, which is sort of where I got the idea. An ice boat is just a vessel you can push across ice, which is much more straightforward than an actual boat.

If this is to be a real adventure, I think the challenge should be real. I think you drop the right random group of people together, it seems like a worthwhile challenge.

I think this is probably the most awesome thing you can do if you are going to run this challenge 🎉🎉🎉

That's an interesting idea, i think i would go to places where tech is much more advanced there just to kind of have an idea of what could be the next big thing in tech and what other engineers are up to so it would be helpful for learning new things.

I would also do a lot of activities and try new things with friends and have fun in general.

I do not know exactly. But I went on a mountain trip once with my friends when I was in school. It was most memorable in my life ☺🤗

I would like to go to a resort. Normally, resorts are located at the coast. That way I could enjoy pool and beaches. It would be fun to enjoy a vacation like that with a very large group

Anything to do with team building and adventures in a good climate so we can see how well programmers do in the wild without a computer in front of them 😂

@leouofa I still remember the time I visited there. I had nothing in mind. It turned out to be an unexpectedly and weirdly tranquil and peaceful experience. It had such a calm and cooling effect on me. And yes you will find a lot of monkeys, they are very cute and naughty and maybe sometimes like little bullies. Atleast this is how the things were when I went there. I dont know about the food or anything in particular. All I remember and adore was that feeling of bliss among the monkeys. It would be good if you watch the Ramanyan before going there. There have been animated films, not all of them would be accurate I suppose, for that people have to read the scriptures but still. One thing you would remember out of it and wouldn't forget is Hanuman (The Monkey God as some people like to call him). :)

Wow. I also think and fantasize about such scenarios and things. Let me tell about my experience on a trip I went in school (or the only trip ;)). So, the school organised this trip for the very first time and since we were small, many of the parents didn't allow there kids to go but I went. My mom was really scared but she had no issues and let me go because I wanted to go. Back then phone was rare so I didn't have any and so communication was infrequent. We went to a national park or sanctuary sort of a place which is famous for tigers but we didn't see any on the Jungle Safari :(. This was particularly disheartening cause I find tigers mesmerizing. All we saw was a barking deer from a distance and a goddamn wild chicken. LOL. I still remember that noisy kid who was consistently trying to impress the girls while being repeatedly told to not make noise as this would scare and disturb the animals. The Safari guy was also not a very nice person but nonetheless. We were given milk and biscuits if I remember correctly before the Safari and I burnt my mouth because it was too hot and didn't cool down for a very long time. For some weird reason I still remember that moment and also the smell of the warm hot milk and biscuits on a cold morning close to the jungle where supposedly tigers were living. Hehe....there are so many little stories and memories :D. There are good and bad and scary (atleast at the time) stories around the whole trip. Its like one of the very few strong memory that are good that I remember. On the way back though I got sick so I could not enjoy the buffet that was setup for lunch :( but I have fond memories of the trip. There is so much more, there was that big ass spider and the childhood friend I spent time with on the trip after we got separated, the floating slippers, the bonfire, the kid who peed in our bed, the broken fence near our room, the bathtub (nothing special about it, its just that we saw it for the first time xd. I only saw it in Tom&Jerry and basically on TV before it), the stuff soft toys and the rumor of a guy who would knock on our door at late night and the algae filled water that scared the shit out of me....haha a lot of boring, scary and maybe some sad stuff. So here was my story in a nutshell. This would make up such a nice topic to talk about in person (maybe after a little intoxication :P) but here it is, in a comment on dev.to, a place full of awesome and highly skilled engineers.
P.s And yeah I might copy your bio.
Just one more thing, I think long back I came across an organisation that hosts an event similar to what you are talking about, I think it was protocol.ai or someone associated to them but I am not sure. It was something along the lines of people meeting up annually I suppose on a surprise location, most prob an island and having a great time, discussing life and ideas and what not. Its unfortunate that I don't remember it exactly.
