I stopped pasting my drafts into ChatGPT. Here's the offline Mac app I use instead.

Every time I wanted a sentence to sound better, I'd copy it, switch to a browser tab, paste it into a cloud AI, wait, copy the result, and switch back. That's five steps, and my unreleased work was going to someone else's server.

So I built DraftKey. It brings AI writing help into the Mac apps you already write in, and the model runs entirely on your Mac.

The 2-second workflow

  1. Write anywhere: email, Notes, Slack, whatever you use.
  2. Tap ⌘ + ⌥ and let go.
  3. Type "make it shorter" or "sound warmer," then review the rewrite and insert it.

You don't need to select anything first, because it works on the paragraph you're in. As you type, autocomplete suggests the next words in compatible text fields.

Your words never leave your Mac

After a one-time model download, autocomplete and rewriting work offline. None of your text goes to a cloud AI service. You choose which apps it runs in, and it skips secure fields automatically.

Two extras people end up loving

  • Clipboard history: Copied over something important? Press ⌘⌥V to search your recent copies and bring one back. It's stored locally and skips password-manager copies.
  • Mechanical keyboard sounds: Every keystroke gets that satisfying click, and it works with the AI turned off.

Try it in 15 seconds, no install

The site has a typing test with the keyboard sounds built in, so put on headphones and hear it for yourself. Then grab the app if you're on an Apple Silicon Mac with macOS 14 or later.

I'd love your feedback. Which app should I make sure it works perfectly in next?
